What?
I haven't posted a blog here in ages! So, today I woke up and drove to Columbus, Ohio where we have a terminal. My load had way too much time on it and I didn't want to sit on it for 3 days before I could deliver, so I needed to drop it somewhere. I asked dispatch if I could drop it at Columbus but they said it wouldn't help me as there's no freight in the area. So, I drove to East Saint Lewis where I found a drop yard we use. Having driven 450 miles, leaving 350 to go on the load, I asked dispatch to let me drop it here. They said okay and gave me a load going to Delaware.
Well, I dropped the load at the drop lot and tried to find an empty trailer, but there were none to be found. :( There are some refrigerated units, but asking dispatch if I could use one resulted in "ask again in the morning, P&G isn't answering their phone." Proctor & Gamble might not like me using a reefer, but it's all the same to me! I could just set it for a nice comfortable 60F and whatever they load me with would be just fine. It's headed for a Walmart distribution center, and I doubt they will care one way or the other. But, I have to wait until morning anyway, so whatever. This load doesn't pick up until, (that's how we say, "I'm scheduled to pick up this load at"), 2pm. I could go visit the St. Lewis Arch! :) Maybe find a brew-pub? Bah.
I'm kinda tired, so I think I'll go to bed now.
Hello again.
It's been a while...
So, today I took my Civic to get the allignment done and wheels balanced. My buddy Brian works at the Line Up Shop. He did a good job. :)
Now I just need to:
Xanga is dying.
I know it's better for blogging, but Myspace is where all the fun is. I know you don't have to write code here, and you can add tons of pictures, but there just isn't anything else here. Myspace lets you comment on peoples pages, post bulletins everyone can see, arrange your top 8 friends in order of whatever, network with friends of friends easily, and it offers blogging and picture sharing (especially if you use photobucket). So, why Xanga when you can Myspace?
Xanga is more streamlined. Xanga was written by someone who actually knows how to develop a web-site (i.e. the code isn't ancient). Xanga is safer. Lots of people are on Xanga.
More people are on Myspace though, and Myspace offers more communication options, so it's always going to be more popular and more exciting.
But I like Xanga! Grr.
Join the army
What's preventing us from living radical militant lives as members of the mighty army of God? Why do I spend all my time and money on selfish pursuits and endeavours? Why do I sit at home, comfortable, clean, and oblivious to the world around me?Kill your alarm clock!
If you feel like hurting your brain, read this article.
Otherwise, maybe just follow these guidelines to happy sleep and learning:
1. don't use alarm clocks
2. don't use caffeine except when waking
3. exercise in bright light when waking to reset your internal clock if you're a night owl, or before bed if you're a lark
4. don't use sleeping pills
5. don't go to sleep unless you feel like you can fall asleep in 5-15 minutes
6. optimal study is early after first waking, and early post-siesta
7. a nap at siesta is good for some
8. listening to tapes while sleeping is worthless
9. alcohol is bad for the brain, but good for the cardio-vascular system (and overall longevity), so 1 drink a day around siesta is probably optimal so as not to interfere with sleep (it will inhibit learning if taken too late)
10. optimal learning concentration has no distractions (even music)
Sleep is, as far as we can tell, a brain process in which memories are re-arranged. Primarily, short term memories are shifted to long-term by the hippocampus training the neocortex. You're brain isn't resting when sleeping--it's doing as much activity as if you were taking a SAT. Dreaming isn't understood well, but is only found in the highest IQ animals, mammals and birds (REM).
