Whitby Autumn Angling Festival 2008 - Starts 1st Septemeber
Each year the local charter skippers hold a spring, summer and autumn Whitby angling festival. Fishing takes place over 14 days from boats registered with The Whitby Charter Skippers Association.
Spring Whitby Angling Festival - April 1st - 14th £1000 For the biggest fish over the 14 days. £50 , £30, £20 1st, 2nd and 3rd place daily prizes
Summer Whitby Angling Festival - July 1st - 14th £1500 For the biggest fish Over the 14 days, £300 For the second biggest fish, and £200 for the third. Also £ 50, £30 and £20 1st, 2nd and 3rd place daily prizes
Autumn Whitby Angling Festival - September 1st - 14th £1000 For the biggest fish over the fourteen days. Also £50, £30 and £20 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed daily prizes
The Whitby angling festival has seen some major catches over the years including a 45 pounds cod taken onboard Rich Wards boat Shytorque. Perhaps none better than this 45 pound cod taken on Rich wards boat Shy torque. The prizes for the Whitby angling festival include £1000 for the heaviest fish (£1500 in the summer festival). In the summer angling festival there are individual cash prizes for 1st second and third heaviest fish in the categories of Cod, Ling, Haddock, best specimen and junior angler.
