After a night of heavy rain across New England from Tropical Storm Hanna, the storm will move quickly off the coast today.

Most of the day should be breezy across New England as Hanna's low pressure moves away, but skies should clear rather quickly.

Tomorrow should be mainly dry across the region before a cold front that will develop in the Plains today moves through the region on Tuesday and brings another shot at some rain.

That front should bring cooler temperatures to the region as well.

Highs today will range from around 70 near the Great Lakes to the upper 80s south of the Mason-Dixon Line.

Cool and unsettled weather will continue across the Midwest for much of the week ahead.

A pair of cold fronts will move through the region, bringing a chance of showers to most areas.

An area of low pressure is forecast to develop in the Plains today and head towards the Great Lakes tomorrow, spreading a chance of rain across the region tomorrow and Tuesday.

Another upper level trough will keep the region cool and showery again mid to late week.

Highs today will range from the 50s in northern North Dakota and Minnesota to the 80s in the Ohio Valley.

Things will be considerably quieter today across the Southeast after Tropical Storm Hanna rolled ashore yesterday.

A few mainly afternoon and evening storms are possible today along the coast of the Carolinas and Georgia into Florida from a passing frontal boundary.

A few storms are also possible in northern Oklahoma and northern Arkansas at the tail end of a frontal boundary in the Midwest.

Attention this week will be on Hurricane Ike, as it brings some rain and wind to South Florida and the Florida Keys tomorrow, with the center expected to move into the Gulf of Mexico later this week (for more on Ike, click on our hurricane season update section).

Otherwise, a cold front will bring a chance of showers and thunderstorms across much of the region (away from the Gulf) on Tuesday, with near or below average temperatures following the front.

Highs today will be in the 80s and 90s.

The same trough that is keeping the Midwest cool and unsettled will also keep the Northern High Plains cool and unsettled for the next couple of days.

By contrast, California, Nevada, and the Southwest will be hot again today.

An upper trough will move into the region early in the week, bringing an end to the heat and returning afternoon highs back to near seasonal averages while the interior stays cool.

Highs today will range from the 40s in the higher elevations of Montana and Wyoming to near 110 in the Lower Colorado River Valley and surrounding deserts.
