SwedishAmerican Hospital is one of three hospitals in Rockford. It is the only one which has an abortionist on its staff. Dennis Christensen, M.D. commits abortions at his own off-site "clinic" (Northern Illinois Women's Center) but is admitted at SwedishAmerican upon request to care for his patients in emergency. The admittance privileges he enjoys at Swedish American enable him to advertise this safety measure to his abortion-seeking clients.

The Northern Illinois Women's Center (NIWC) is owned and operated by Dennis Christensen. Dr. Christensen operates several abortion facilities in the upper Midwest and commits abortion at all stages of gestation - even late term. Dennis Christensen is one of the few abortionists in the world who specialize in the "partial birth" technique. Court records from the United States District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin indicate that as late as 1999, he was the only abortionist known in Wisconsin who "performed" the grizzly "D and X" abortion (i.e. "partial birth abortion")
