Attack of the Big Red Button

As you travel around the web, you may start noticing a big red image. One that looks really out of place, and really big. If you do, than that’s the work of me.

Please Update Graphic

When the Chicklet Creator was first created, I hosted all the images and people just linked to them on my site. That made it easy for users as they didn’t have to download or upload anything. Just copy the code and go. It turns out, that wasn’t a bright idea.

Chicklet & Social Creator Work in Wordpress 2.1

I have a test blog that I basically do anything with so I decided to take the chances and upgrade to Wordpress 2.1 on it tonight. I didn’t perform a backup, I didn’t even disable any plugins, I just upgraded and in about two minutes I was done. Everything works great and looks good.

My fist test, besides looking at the new editor, was to see if the Chicklet Creator and Social Bookmark Creator plugins worked. Sure enough, they had no issues.

These are two plugins you can check off the worry list as there is nothing to worry about here. ;)

Chicklet Creator Plugin 0.5 Released!

[image]The Chicklet Creator Wordpress plugin just got better and much easier to use.

Version 0.5 Includes:

A configuration pane in Worpress’ admin area. New Feed Buttons. Lots of new code. All local images for fast load times. More like a real Wordpress plugin.

Check out the Chicklet Creator Wordpress Plugin v0.5 and let me know what you think.

You can leave feedback below and I’ll workout any issues I can. At this time, there is no drop down option. For that, you’ll need to use the online tool.

Chicklet Creator Plugin Testers Wanted

Great news, after a long coding spree last night, I came up with a major overhaul of the Chicklet Creator Wordpress plug. Now, I need some more testers. :)

The new plugin version includes:

Updated PHP code for our template so it won’t throw errors when you disable the plugin. Actually this is available for the current version too. And admin panel to configure the Chicklet Creator. That’s right, no editing the plugin file! Everything takes place in Wordpress’ admin area. Database integration. All plugin choices are now saved to the database. Configure it once, and you’ll be set!

Updated Chicklet & Social Blog Tools

Announcing updates to the Chicklet Creator and the Social Bookmark Creator.

The updated blog tools include a new layout, more buttons and a few added features. One of the big additions is the drop down menus. You can now create a CSS drop down menu to hold all your feed buttons, or you can create a social bookmark pop-up menu just like the one above.

Call for Feed Buttons!

The upgraded Chicklet Creator is just around the corner.  Really, in that folder over there. ;)

Now is the time to send in any Feed readers or other blog services that you want included.  This is a big update so you’ll definitely want to get your service, or your favorite service added.

Blocking Images

It seems that not a whole lot of people listened to my warning the other day so I’ve started blocking sites. I don’t like to do it, but I need to get my bandwidth and server load under control.

Your site is blocked if:

If I contacted you and you didn’t respond or update your images. If you are on my top 15 referrers and I can’t get ahold of you. If you are a porn site. If you are on Blogspot, MSN Spaces or Livedoor.jp

Chicklet Creator Important Announcement

The feed buttons you have on your blog are causing my server to have performance issues. I had asked people to update their buttons a while ago and it hasn’t helped enough. Now an ever increasing image is going to force people to update. Every few days the image will grow larger and larger. Currently it’s 200×200px and hopefully that’ll grab some peoples attention. Next week it could be 2000×2000. I hate to do it, but I need to stop people from linking the feed button images to my site.

Seeing Text Not Chicklets?

If the past few days you’ve been seeing text where chicklets should have been you’re not alone. Somehow, a folder on the server got renamed and caused the images to be not found.

Granted, I have fixed the issue, but if you were seeing text were there were once chicklets, than that means your not hosting your own button images.

Download the button images, and upload them to your server. Then update the paths so you are referencing the images on your server. This will prevent any future issues and it’ll be cheaper for me. :D

Thanks

New Wordpress Plugin Instructions

Last night I decided that my Wordpress plugins needed a bit more detailed install and configure instructions.  Sure, I know how to do it but that doesn’t mean anyone else gets it. :)

Check out the Chicklet Creator Wordpress Plugin instructions and the Social Bookmark Wordpress Plugin instructions.  Let me know if something doesn’t make sense or if I missed anything.

Just trying to make it easier to use.
