Lightsaber App For Nokia N95!
**UPDATE** A new version has been released, you can get it at this link: http://graho.wordpress.com/
Comments on this thread have been closed, please continue on the other post.
Luckily, I subscribe to the comments feed for Tommi’s S60 blog. Why luckily? Because today, a fellow named Graham Oldfield commented that he’d used the recently available N95 accelerometer API to create a lightsaber application for the Nokia N95. That’s right, with this app, you can use your Nokia N95 as a lightsaber. Well, it makes the right sounds, anyways. Install the app (**Must install on the phone’s internal memory, NOT the memory card**), and then press the center button on the d-pad to power your new lightsaber on. Swing it around and you get the cool sound effects, including one for when two sabers clash.
Pretty cool, I even created a video for you to show how big a geek I really am. Christina had to leave the room cause she was laughing too hard.
You can download the signed application here: http://graho.wordpress.com/
**Update** If you can’t get the app to start, uninstall it, and try installing the Accelerometer API before installing the app. Apologies for not mentioning it sooner, but my N95-1 with the latest firmware didn’t need it.
Here’s the file:
Download N95AccelerometerPlugin.sis
And here’s the mobile code:

Lol cool video!!!!
lol cool mask.
Wow Ricky, I love the complete lack of shame. I was laughing too.
Thank you for the good laugh, I needed it.
Cheers!
Yeah, I most certainly don’t have much shame, really.
@Mark - the mask is a cut-out of Darth Vader that I printed out online. The attention to detail sucked.
Surprised no one mentioned the candle yet.
Wow, it was most certainly funny. This application is cool.
Way to go.
Imagine if you could bluetooth to another phone. They’d know where each other were and be able to make clank sounds.
Sounds great, but it’s not working for me. I’ve installed it, but it won’t start for me. I hit the icon, and my N95 does nothing.
Any ideas, anyone?
Hi mate, installed in my N95 but the application is not executing , when iu press open , the application is not opening , any solution???
@evil_night13: You have to install it on the phone memory. If you install it on the memory card, it won’t launch.
Thanks Ricky. This thing is really fun.
Way to go N95 accelerometer!
well that’s exactly the type of thing you want your future wife to see you doing before you tie the knot… makes her wonder what other creepy thgs you’re gonna do after she’s said the famous “till death do us apart”.
LoooL, cool video btw. The candle, the phone, the mask, the sounds… too much Star Wars for me. (Am I the only person in the world who has NEVER watched ANY Star Wars movie?)
Hey Ricky.
Thx for sharing this software. As soon as my N95 is back from the NSC I’m gonna install it on my N95.
Really neat video!
Thank you Rick. Nice find.
mines installed on the phone memory but still wont start up. really confused why it wont start up
@bazza This app needs to be installed to phone memory to work.
Really cool…thanks for the updates!!!
I’ll try to fix the phone memory only, any requests for features or ideas on how to improve it.
Soon I’m going to add
-Volume control
-Sensitivity control
Future
- Hum changes on small movement
- Detects big swings and does a more impressive vrumm for a spin etc
Rodrigo, maybe add a display of colours to the phone screen???
For anyone having trouble getting this to start, you need to install some API file. You can get it in the comments about this app on AllAboutSymbian. Rafe posted it in the comments.
Thanks a lot for making this fun little app, Graham!!! I look forward to the update!
Rodrigo:
Awesome app - lotta fun. My suggestions would be a better loop on the ambient hum, and perhaps let the hum run under the swing to better blend between the sounds.
Great fun though, good work.
Sweet! One more reason for me to figure out how to get my RotateMe signed…
Add some vibration if you can.
Maybe would be nice if the phone vibrates when the sound of two lightsaber colliding is played.
LOOOOOOOOOL!!
make a serious app!!
its a joke!!
lol!!
This thing is AWESOME!!!
The only thing the N95 doesn’t have is the QWERTY keyboard… which I really can’t live with out.
So if they could somehow make TYPING possible with this sensor. That would be Geek heaven for me!
Or am I just dreaming?
Thanks for this! This is great app!
I have to load the program then go to the menu again and press the icon to make the sounds start playing

[…] Lightsaber May the Force be with your N95! Yes, this app transforms your humble smartphone into a deadly lightsaber – or at least into something that makes genuine lightsaber noises when you fire it up and swing it about. Not the most practical of apps, perhaps, but undeniably great fun! […]
