Jim Jagielski: “Make no mistake, of course. There are some positions where telecommuting (my favorite alternative) does not make sense. But if you are in front of a computer terminal for most of the day, either as programmer, developer, designer, administrator, accountant, etc… then there is really no valid reason why you cannot do a lot of your work from home. Heck, people bring work home all the time, to “catch up.””
I’ve been working from home full time since March 2001. So long that none of my three kids have ever known me to work anywhere but from home. They actually don’t believe me that some mom and dads actually have to drive to work. My wife Jen is currently a stay at home mom. We have a van that only averages 15 miles a gallon but we only have to fill it up once a month. In the three years we’ve had it, we’ve only put about 20,000 miles on it. Not only do I telecommute, but my boss and department are back in Boston while I’m still out here in the Central San Joaquin Valley in California where I’ve got five generations of family living within a 30 mile radius. Right now, I just couldn’t imagine actually having to commute to an office just to sit around and type at the computer all day.

Associated Press (via Fox News): “The mice escaped the shooting unharmed.”
There’s a lesson in here somewhere but I’m laughing too much to think about what it is.

Between getting the house ready to put it on the market, the kids being home from school for the summer, a couple of day job projects, some medical stuff I’ve been having to deal with, and my martial arts training, I feel like I’ve been running pretty much non-stop lately. I’ve been falling behind on a few things, such as Abdera. Luckily, the other commiters have been busy moving forward with it. I think I’ll have some time next week to catch up. I am in serious need of a vacation tho. Thinking about taking a couple weeks off soon just to chill.
