A thought for the weekend, and considering this horrendous weather, a thought that might take you back a few years!
I’m asking, what has been your favourite mobile phone, you have owned, ever!
I’ll start with mine. Now for me, this is an incredibly tough choice, it’s between the Nokia 3310, and the Nokia 3200! (Not exactly [...]
We just got this in from Lars, Vice President of Marketing over at Momail.

Hi,
The thought’s in todays article is very, very right!
The hurdles described are some of the ones we at Momail and quite successfully are trying to solve.
Momail’s focus is consumer email and we focus on:
Ease of use – Simple registration, then just accept [...]
Okay, so we’ve all seen all the phones that are coming up from Motorola lately, right? Earlier today, they have unveiled another ‘MOTOsomething’, the MOTOJEWEL here in the UK.Â
Â
Motorola is targeting the ‘female fashionista’ with this phone. In an effort to attract the ladies, the company is bundling a mini clutch bag that has just about enough [...]

I became aware of Nokia’s latest email offering recently, and being both an email junkie and S60 phone user I quickly installed it and had a play with it. I was intending to write a full review for this article, but I found that I kept wanting to talk about Nokia email in the [...]
Continue ReadingTwitter cropped up in the news recently here in the UK with the announcement that it could no longer justify the cost of delivering Twitter messages by SMS outside the US, Canada & India. Whilst this was a useful feature, the announcement was hardly surprising given that it was costing Twitter up to $1,000 per [...]
Continue ReadingSo I was thinking yesterday (potentially dangerous) about the ongoing situation with my parents and their $8million dollars in phone credit they never use.
(To catch anyone up, they’re both on PAYG, rarely use their phones but still have to put in a $10 phone card every month, Dad is sitting somewhere over $100 in credit [...]
Where do you think we should film the MIR Show next?
We were going to go to the Mobyko party tomorrow night and film from there — but alas, it’s been moved.
So we’re locationless at the moment. Do you have any ideas for a nice bar, or funky office in the West End/Central London?
Maybe a [...]
A thought I’ve pondered over a lot. If I had my way I would change a lot (not only in Mobile), but in the rest of the world. But let’s forget about that; let’s think purely Mobile, purely communications, and sales. What would you change?
What has to annoy me the most with mobiles, especially here [...]
Flirtomatic, UK’s leading flirting service has today announced its partnership with Sharpcards, the global pioneer in enhanced mobile messaging.
As a part of the agreement, Sharpcards will provide its content to over 900,000 of Flirtomatic users, while still holding the mobile licensing rights of its content. An initial trial of the same was undertaken by both [...]
I would’ve, if it was 187 quid on Vodafone.
But I seriously doubt it.
That’ll only be for new customers/contracts:
It’s 600 quid on Expansys, to buy unlocked. I’m going to wait until 3 get their arse in gear and get it with them, I think…
Continue ReadingThat is just one idea that has been floating around Mobile Industry Review for sometime; and it seems like after a trial period, people like it!
The Near Field Communications (NFC) which O2 had been trialling with Nokia has had some optimistic results. Apparently nine out of ten (90%) of the five hundred trialists said they [...]
The weekly newsletter subscribers will get the first 5 paragraphs of Mr Operator’s WiMax discourse early this afternoon.
His piece will go live here later in the day.
If you’ve ever wondered about WiMax and whether it’s any good, you’ll want to look at Mr Operator’s take. I don’t think I’m giving anything away when I [...]
I’m feeling really clever this morning. I tagged my younger brother, Fraser, in a picture composed entirely of Kangaroos, taken by my other brother, Martin (or BladeWatch fame) when he was in Australia last week.
I am, at least for the moment, feeling like I am brimming with wit.
And if you are too, then we [...]
Nearly two weeks ago, Ewan announced he was sending me an iPhone, and simultaneously I announced I really do not like the device. My ramble about the iPhone only summed up a few of my displeasures about the device, but I was more than willing to accept I maybe wrong.
Firstly, I should point out, the [...]

If you’re not getting the newsletter — and you’re signed-up — do talk to Krystal and she’ll sort it.

I’m always, always pleased to hear about people taking the entrepreneurial step so good luck and every success, Stephen!
Ministry of Sound, the global dance music brand, dance music record label and famous night club in South London have announced the launch of three exclusive handset bundle, each with the popular handset manufacturers of Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Samsung.
As a part of the deal, media content from the superclub brand will be pre-loaded onto [...]
I’ve been meaning to do a post about this news released by Ofcom a few weeks ago.
Here are the highlights:
By the end of 2007, there were almost 74 million mobile connections serving a population of 60 million in the UK. This was an increase of 3.7 million connections since the end of 2006. The total [...]
Continue ReadingAre you among those who think that their operator is overcharging for calls? If you are, EU might just be the angel in disguise you were looking for.
The European Commission, said yesterday, that it may just legislate further to lower the charges levied by most European Mobile service providers. The executive arms of European Union [...]

First of all, hello Future of Mobile! Not only am I speaking at the event, thanks to the support of the Future of Mobile team, we’re going to be producing a special report MIR show from the conference. We’ll [...]
It has been reported that Comtel, an Australian telecom firm is to launch SMSpup: Mobile, an MNVO offering subsidised tariffs in return for adverts.
Unlike Blyk the service is not completely free, and that they will receive around a 65% discount on pre-paid tariffs.
Similar to Blyk customers who “opt-in” will receive MMS and SMS messages complete [...]
I’m being serious here. Since my time here as Mobile Industry Review I’ve read hundreds of news articles on the latest goings on with the mobile industry. Yes a lot of the so called news is terribly “boring”, but every now and then, I have to sit back laugh, and ask “why”?
Ricky kindly sent me [...]
O2 Germany’s recent move to block Rebtel’s access numbers looks like yet another attempt by the big operators to preserve ‘their world’ at the expense of competition and customer choice. Other recent examples include Truphone’s interconnect issues, disabled VoIP clients on operator branded Nokia handsets and specific 07 number ranges excluded from call bundles.
It reminds [...]
This comment was left on our Orange 250mb data bundle post from a few days ago.
I purchased a Vodacom Modem while in South Africa. I was told it would work in the UK and USA. However, in the USA, I would need to find a Sims card that would convert over to data in [...]
