A Very Unfortunate Error For Farecast and Live

Posted by Jane Copland on Wed (6/25/08) at 05:56 PM to Websites

This morning, I was talking to Rob Kerry about some particularly competitive search phrases and looking around in the SERPs. We'd gone through most of the usual suspects when [cheap flights] came up. Google duly returned its top ten, and at the bottom, I noticed...

The Mobile Web - Vital For Social Networking; Important For Everyone Else

Posted by Jane Copland on Wed (6/18/08) at 05:42 AM to Websites

I've recently purchased my first BlackBerry phone, and I've thus been introduced to the joys of a truly mobile Internet. There is a big difference between composing all-lower-case, badly punctuated emails on one of these horrific pieces of rubbish and using a phone that was actually designed with the Internet in mind. However, I've also had the displeasure of visiting sites that aren't designed with mobile phones in mind.

What Is Acceptable For "People Search Engines?"

Posted by Jane Copland on Wed (5/14/08) at 05:55 AM to Websites

I don't often get indignant about websites. Even bad ones. Sometimes I complain about what passes for Web 2.0 genius, but never before have I been really horrified by an online service. Spock.com horrifies me. I have never before felt like a website should cease to exist, but I am appalled at my experience with Spock. I'm in the process of having my personal information removed from the site at th...

The 5 Websites You Can't Live Without

Posted by randfish on Sun (10/14/07) at 08:04 PM to Websites

I'm halfway through my next post on rewriting the Beginner's Guide, but I'm just too tired to go on. Losing three hours coming over to New York doesn't help, either. So, I've turned my attention away from the project for now and thought I'd ask something a bit more participatory of the crowd here... What are the 5 industry-related websites (excluding the search engines themselves) that ...

Five Reasons Why It's Better to be Big & Popular than Small & Niche

Posted by randfish on Mon (10/1/07) at 10:43 PM to Websites

Today we wrapped up our first ever SEOmoz training seminar - covering topics from keyword research to technical issues to search algorithms and social media. Despite the 7 straight hours of speaking on stage, I feel pretty good - the people in attendance appeared to have a terrific time and our after-hours party was still going strong when I left an hour ago. One of the most frequently ...

The Competition that Just Won't Budge

Posted by randfish on Tue (8/28/07) at 02:45 PM to Websites

You know the feeling... That competitor who, no matter what you do, always ranks above your site. You've got more links, better links, better optimization, more targeted anchor text, tons of better viral content and yet, somehow, as though blessed by a higher power, your site simply can't outrank that @#$%! I'd like to do something a little different on the SEOmoz blog today, and ask yo...

Sphinn - The Social News Site Every Search Marketer Should Be Using

Posted by randfish on Mon (7/16/07) at 01:25 AM to Websites

Late last week, Danny Sullivan launched Sphinn, the search engine industry's own social news & networking site, with remarkably little fanfare. However, despite the relatively covert launch, the site itself has some fairly exceptional functionality and a very fast learning curve. And, if that wasn't enough, one of the top stories right now is on the lazin...

Last week, Rand discovered that an article we'd written quite some time ago had never been launched. "How to Leverage Web 2.0 & Social Media Sites to Market Your Brand & Control Your Message" covers thirty sites that you can use for marketing.
