Carter
Vince Carter returned from a hamstring injury on Sunday and finished a win over Miami with 19 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Carter looked great and was fearlessly attacking the basket, resulting in 9-of-10 free throws. He is healthy and motivated to lead the young Nets, and could end up being a steal for his owners. Oct. 12 - 4:46 pm et

Ellis
The decision of Warriors owner Chris Cohan and president Robert Rowell to suspend Monta Ellis 30 games without pay was contrary to the desires of Chris Mullin and coach Don Nelson.
Rowell went right at Mullin after announcing the suspension, which costs Ellis around $3 million: "Chris Mullin made it perfectly clear...that he didn't think this was a big deal at the beginning, and we happen to think it's a very big deal," Rowell said. Public excoriation of top executives indicates that trouble is brewing in Oakland. Don Nelson tried to stay above the fray, saying, "That's really not my territory." Oct. 12 - 1:46 am et

[image] [image] Aaron Afflalo came off the Pistons bench and scored 28 points on Saturday, going 10-of-12 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free throw line.
He also added two 3s, two assists and two steals in just 25 minutes of action. The Pistons have plenty of sleeper candidates, but unfortunately there aren't enough minutes for Rodney Stuckey, Amir Johnson, Afflalo and Jason Maxiell to each have a breakout season. Oct. 11 - 11:11 pm et

Billups
Chauncey Billups sprained his right ankle in the third quarter of Saturday's game. He was unable to return, but the injury doesn't appear too serious.
"I'm a little sore right now," Billups said. "I just tweaked it. I'll be all right." In the meantime, consider Rodney Stuckey's 15 points, 10 assists and five steals as proof that his value would skyrocket if Billups (or Rip Hamilton) ever goes down for an extended period of time. McGrady
Tracy McGrady played 12 minutes on Saturday, finishing with 10 points and three rebounds. It was his first action of the preseason, as he continues to deal with soreness in his surgically-repaired knee.
McGrady didn't anticipate playing, but said afterward, "I was experiencing some pain in my knee, but it’s more of a mental thing. Sometimes I find myself favoring it. I get off balance, especially when I push off (the right) leg." He continues to stress that it's mostly mental at this point, and we continue to stress that fantasy owners should let someone else deal with T-Mac this season. Oct. 11 - 10:55 pm et

[image] [image] Thunder forward Joe Smith fractured his nose on Friday when teammate Russell Westbrook inadvertently elbowed him. He will not play in Saturday's exhibition.
Smith will have his nose re-set sometime next week and could end up wearing an ever-fashionable facemask for a while. Chris Wilcox, Nick Collison and Johan Petro could each pick up a few minutes as a result, but don't get too excited -- we expect Smith to be ready for opening day. Oct. 11 - 10:26 pm et

Carter
Vince Carter participated in the Nets entire practice on Saturday and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game.
There's no need to rush Carter back for a preseason game, so don't be surprised if he doesn't play or sees only a few minutes. Eduardo Najera (wrist) and Jarvis Hayes (hamstring) will not play but Keyon Dooling is "available" and will likely make his Nets debut. Oct. 11 - 5:32 pm et

Ellis
The Warriors have suspended Monta Ellis for 30 games without pay for violating his contract this summer, when he injured his ankle in a moped accident.
Four preseason games will count toward the suspension, making Ellis eligible to return on December 17th. He isn't expected to be in game shape until around then anyway, so this basically amounts to a $3 million fine. Ellis compounded the injury by lying about its cause, but we're guessing both sides are eager to put this whole incident behind them. Oct. 11 - 5:02 pm et

[image] [image] Heat center Jamaal Magloire will miss at least six-to-eight weeks with a broken bone in his left hand, and will be out longer if surgery is required.
Doctors reset the fracture by performing a closed reduction and immobilizing the hand. He will be re-evaluated in one week, at which point they can determine whether surgery is needed. The Heat will likely start Mark Blount at center, supported by Joel Anthony and undrafted rookie David Padgett. Don't look to Miami for a solid fantasy center this season. Oct. 11 - 12:42 pm et
