Fight the smears - Obama tries to swift-boat Republicans?
I was listening to Limbaugh most of the week, and I must admit not until this afternoon was I able to visit the “famous” www.fightthesmears.com website, set up by the Barrack Obama campaign.
The purpose of this website is clear - intimidation of the “rightosphere” and conservative talk radio. The website picks out specific blogs to challenge for their statements and attacks them (oh please pick me - I really would love the traffic). It attempts to “reveal the truth” about statements made by Limbaugh, Hannity, and other conservative talk show hosts.
It’s complete and total stupidity - designed to encourage the “left” bloggers who follow the DailyKos and HuffPo to rail against conservative blogs, websites, and talk shows. Having failed miserably in attempting to impose “equal time,” it’s clear the Obama campaign has adopted a new strategy - “Swift boating”.
Let me take one example - the alleged “Whitey” claim leveled against Michelle Obama. For those of you who aren’t aware, there has been for some time the allegation that a tape with Michelle Obama doing her own version of “Rev. Wright” and screaming about “Whitey” holding down blacks. Now, I must admit, that in following this claim myself - it’s always seemed a bit fishy. One minute it’s Michelle Obama screaming whitey from the United Trinity Church - the next it’s at a DNC conference.
The real heart of the allegation, however, is that Barrack and Michelle are essentially black liberationists. That they hold the views that Whites are responsible for the situation for blacks. That’s the real heart of the allegation here. What does “stopthesmears” do to combat that allegation? Nothing. They don’t even deny it. Here is the chain of comments from the website:

Lie:
On May 30th, Rush Limbaugh said he had heard a rumor that a tape exists of Michelle Obama using the word “Whitey†from the pulpit of Trinity United Church of Christ.
Truth:
No such tape exists. Michelle Obama has not spoken from the pulpit at Trinity and has not used that word.
Lie:
Blogger Larry Johnson wrote on May 31st that he would add “New and dramatic developments. This is a heads up. I’ll post the news Monday morning by 0900 hours. Now I know why people who have seen the videotape say it is stunning. Barack’s headaches are only starting.â€
Truth:
Johnson posted no such update.
Lie:
Proven GOP sleazemeister Roger Stone said on Fox News on June 1st that “there’s a buzz, which I believe now to be credible, that some indelible record exists†of a tape of Michelle Obama using the term “whitey.â€
Truth:
Stone conceded on June 2nd that he hasn’t met anyone who has seen the tape and that it therefore may be a hoax.
Lie:
“The Michelle Obama Rant Tape was filmed between June 26th - July 1st 2004 in Chicago, IL at the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition Conference at Trinity United Church: specifically the Women’s Event.â€
Truth:
Michelle Obama was not on a panel, and the Rainbow Push Conference was at the Sheraton.
Okay, where have we seen this before - “I did not have sex with that woman, [the one who gave me oral sex in the oval office] Monica Lewinsky…” It’s technically all true - he didn’t have sex with her - if sex is defined only as sexual intercourse. However, the allegation against President Clinton was that he was dawdling the help in the oval office - a fact that ultimately was demonstrated to be true.
President Clinton could not come out and say “Look, I never had any contact with that woman. I love my wife, I’ve been faithful to my wife, and I take offense at allegations to the contrary.”
Why? Well let’s see - Gennifer Flowers, for one. Marilyn Jo Jenkins for another. And of course… Paula Jones.
I mean did ANYONE a the time President Clinton made that statement not know he was cooked? I was having breakfast with a colleague of mine, and we both looked at each other and said “He’s cooked.”
If you wanted to deny that Michelle Obama used the word “Whitey,” thought in those terms, felt that way - wouldn’t the easiest way to do that be a direct denial? I understand that proving a negative is impossible. However, instead of this technical “deny” - he didn’t produce the tape… the conference wasn’t held at that location… etc. Isn’t a much more convincing denial a categorical one? I mean - they make this dramatic “no such tape exists” - followed by these very obtuse defensive details.
It all seems strangely familiar.
I will say this for Mr. Obama - prior to his campaign, I maintained that “Bubba” was the best campaigner that ever was. Mr. Obama - you are definitely the best campaigner I’ve ever seen… the website is slick, the branding is slick, the rockstar crowds are incredible, the fundraising amazing.
If only you weren’t a crazy Marxist who hates America and would weaken this country - I might actually be inclined to vote for you.
Oh one last thing - I actually can’t see Mr. Obama with his hand over his heart saying the pledge of allegiance…Â as “fight the smears” tries to show in their claim that Obama is indeed a flag-waving - pledge saying - America-loving guy… they show him leading the opening session of the US Senate about a year or so ago… I don’t know about you…. but I just see a pixelated guy standing there… I remember, however, this picture:
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think having your hand over your heart makes you a patriot - but again - if you’re going to claim you are - might be a good idea to do it…
Oh please please PLEASE Swift boat me now Obama campaign! I want hundreds of visitors per hour! I want the fame and fortune! 
Just tell me first so I can get google adsense up and make some money from the impressions!

Thank you for making that point. As a political humor writer I read a ton of news and op-ed pieces from all kinds of sources. No one has ever put it like you did and you are right. You can’t claim to be a super patriot candidate and not wear a flag pin or put your hand over your heart. The average American also won’t forget that picture either. Hell, people are up in arms because a WNBA player from the US is playing for Russia in the Olympics, and she wasn’t even invited for a tryout for the home team.
forgot to add that I think the big problem with the blogsphere is the left is way ahead of the right and is better promoted to the general public. I can name the top two left blogs (KOS and Huff) but I have no clue about the same on the Repub side. The RNC really needs to invest money into the promotion end and the right really needs to come together as a collective so that the RNC can funnel their message through the blogs like the left is so good at doing right now.
But the left also has an advantage because the moonbats writing their blogs don’t work and can sit around in Starbucks using free wifi to write posts. The rest of us have to work for a living. I wish I had a trust fund and could blog all day long.

You reallly sound like a man who is VERY INFERIOIR to a Black man doing well….Truth hurts don’t it? and if you are a journalist where are the facts that support your claim that they are libertarions? You are one who is just talking, and as you said you would love the traffic, undoubtdely to receive your 15 min of fame…..but you know what? There has to be ppl like you, in order for ppl like me to exist….because in the world of relativity their has to be the opposite of one thing in order to have another….so I thank you, and all the other idiots that agree with you, becasue without you, I would not be able to experince being one who has chosen to lift the divise thoughts and unite with ppl…..There is nothing worng with having a goverenment that is run by the ppl, and works for the ppl, instead of one that is run by the wealthy, and supports ONLY the wealthy!!!…….MCFILP/FLOP’S position.
I am proud to say that I will support Obama until that man is sitting in the White House…..( which will finally have some soul!!!)
