Theological Response to Lakeland Critics

This was forwarded by Randy Clark. It is a 55 page defense of the activities of the Lakeland outpouring. Here is a selection from page 5:

Normative New Testament evangelism is accompanied by God’s power

A simple perusal of the following passages shows that true biblical revival always involved word and deed, the preaching of the gospel alongside people ministering and experiencing (not just talking about) God’s healing and miraculous power: Matt. 4:23; 9:35-36; 10:1, 7-8; 11:5; 12:15, 18; 15:30; 19:2 (cf. Mk. 10:1); 21:14 (cf. Lk. 21:37); Mk. 1: 38-39; 2:2, 11; 3:14-15; 6:12-13; 10:1 (cf. Mat. 19:2); Lk. 4:18; 5:17, 24; 6:6-11, 17-18; 7:22; 9:1-2; 10:9, 13; 13:10-13, 22, 32; 14:4, 7ff.; 21:37 (cf. Mat. 21:14); 16:15-18, 20; Jn. 3:2; 7:14-15, 21-23, 31, 38; 10:25, 32, 38; 12:37, 49; 14:10, 12; Acts 1:1; 2:22; 3:6, 12; 4:29-30; 5:12-16, 20-21, 28, 42; 6:8, 10; 8:4-7, 12; 9:17-18 (cf. 22:13), 34-35; 10:38; 14:3, 8-10, 15ff.; 15:12, 36; 18:5, 11 (cf. 2 Cor. 12:12; 1 Cor. 2:4-5); 19:8-12; Rom. 15:18-19; 1 Cor. 2:4-5; 11:1; 12:1-11, 28-31; 14:22-25; 2 Cor. 12:12; Gal. 3:5; Phil. 4:9; 1 Thes. 1:5-6; Heb. 2:3-4; 6:1-2; Jas. 5:13-16.

Indeed Paul said in Romans 15:18-19 that only the proclamation of the gospel that is accompanied by healing, signs and wonders, that display the power of the risen Lord, represents a full proclamation of the gospel: Rom. 15:18-19 (NIV)— I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me in leading the Gentiles to obey God by what I have said and done— by the power of signs and miracles, through the power of the Spirit. So from Jerusalem all the way around to Illyricum, I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ. [italics and boldface mine]

Read and be blessed.

The suggested donation is $3-$5 to be paid to Fresh Fire to finance the work in Lakeland.

Why Doesn’t Todd Bentley Take it to the Streets?

I have heard people ask why Todd does not take his gift out of the church and into the streets. I have seen it written that he only sees these manifestations where he has whipped the crowd into a frenzy and there is some sort of mass trance.

Revival Podcast

Ok, its not really the revival podcast. It is the podcast from my ministry The Mission. But at the end of the service last night we had a tongue and an interpretation. I am posting this for those who have never heard that happen before.

Warning, you have to listen to a testimony, an exhortation, my message, and ministry time before it comes. It is near the end.

7-7-7

Can I be honest? I don’t really buy into the prophetic significance of dates. I just don’t. I don’t see it in scripture and when I look back at history, I don’t see it either.

Surely everyone who reads this blog knows about The Call in Nashville. It was staged on the 7th along with about a billion weddings. I actually did a wedding that morning. I was almost hoarse from camp and was tired beyond words but a brother has to pay bills.

I was trying to watch it on God.tv but the stream failed.

This morning I wanted to see if there was any news about it and all I could find was news about the Live Earth concert.

Does anyone find it a little coincidental that both a stadium event trumpeting the “Live Earth” was staged on the same day as a prophetic intercession stadium event?

The Gifts

This is not going to be a theological post. I am not going to debate anyone. If you disagree, that’s fine. Move on.

I have received an array of correspondence from people who happen to stumble upon this blog who come to say the same thing,

I want to see the power of God in my ministry.

I have good news for you, God wants the same. But where do you start? The truth is, there are two ways to catch a log on fire.

You can use friction till it smolders and then feed the smoldering embers with oxygen till it spreads to the whole log. Throw the log on an existing fire.

So the easiest way to see the gifts in operation in your life is to get around people who have Holy Ghost activity in their lives. Pray with them, minister with them, study the Word with them. There is a giga-church in my area that is lead by a man who is a strong Bible teacher and evangelist. Guess what every leader in the church is? This is a spiritual law. Trust me, it works.

If there is nobody in your circle of influence that functions in these areas I have great news! You are the beginning of a revival! Here is what you do. Get two or three people who are as hungry as you and you begin an ongoing prayer meeting. When I was hungry for the gifts, this is what I did. I had a couple people and I would say, “We are going to pray until something happens!” And we did.

Sometimes someone would get a vision, or someone would get a song they would sing or someone would get a verse from the Bible that was for us but we would pray until something happened. You should do the same. Whether you are called to take care of the little ones, teach the Word, or heal the sick, you will do it better with the power of the Holy Spirit working through your ministry.
There is no excuse for a powerless Christian.

Tongues and Interpretation(s)

My current Church, Boca Church of All Nations regularly has tongues and interpretations in worship services. There are two Sunday morning services and it happens more in the second service than the first. This may be becasue there are more visitors in the second service, second service people are more spiritual, or maybe that they are more awake. In any event, it happens.

I made reference to this in Chris’ blog a little while ago.

Well, it happened this Sunday with a funny twist. I usually attend the first service,  work the visitor room and then minister to the middle school youth during the second service.  If possible, I like to hit second service worship before heading to the youth. (Second service worship is normally better)

At the end of worship, while people were expressing their love for God a woman began yelling out a tongue. We waited for the interpretation and then it came . . . in Portugese! A good portion of my church is from Brazil and they speak Portugese as evidenced by the “amens” as the interpretation came forth. They wear little ear pieces to hear an english translation during the preaching but us English speakers don’t don’t get one as preparation for a tongue that is interpreted by a Portguese speaker. So after the tongue (I do not know the speaker’s native earthly language) and the Portugese interpretation, the Brazilian worship leader translated the interpretation into English.  It was a good word and many were blessed by it.

For those who are curious, this is what a high view of Scripture looks like.
