There’s been some confusion over the past 24hrs regarding which plans Sprint deem are eligible for use with their new Samsung Instinct touchscreen handset, stemming from smallprint on the phone’s official site that states “purchase of the Instinct requires activation on an Everything plan“.  Engadget, in a post since taken down, seemingly forgot that Sprint’s $100 ‘Simply Everything’ plan is not the only such tariff the carrier offers; while I’m sure Sprint would love for you to sign up to two years of that, the cheapest eligible plan is in fact the $69.99 ‘Simply Everything’ 450, which offers 450 bundled minutes and unlimited everything else (data, messaging, etc.).

Samsung Sprint Instinct

While that’s ten bucks more than AT&T’s cheapest iPhone plan, that offering lacks unlimited messaging (200 SMS messages are bundled) and unlimited night/weekend calls (you get 5,000 minutes).  Adding unlimited SMS to an iPhone would cost an extra $20/mo.

It’s about time that someone finally offered a truly all in one phone plan.
Props to sprint for doing this. Memo to Verizon & AT+T get off your high horse
and make a competitve plan available, in fact you both need to MATCH THIS PLAN!! NO MORE EXCUSES !!!! What are you afraid of?? Making your customers happy? Expanding your market share ? And as for Verizon you need to get this phone NOW !!!!!! Stop using General Motors Dinosaur Marketing Strategy. Simply put you guys bring out whatever product you want and not what your customers want when they want it.

Nate says:

Not true!
I emailed dan@sprint.com and here is their response::

Dear ****,
I definitely understand your concerns, because you and I are very similar. I have a phone addiction too. To clarify with you, when you read the information on the new Samsung Instinct phone it is possible for you to misconceive the information because I did myself. The way the information was put together on the Instinct phone, makes it seem like you do have to have the Simply Everything plan, but you don?t. It?s just our way of advertising the Simply Everything plan and because of all the features the phone has to offer it would be best for our customers who decide to purchase the Instinct phone to get one of the simply everything plans. This would ensure that they didn?t have to worry about over charges. So because you are one of the fortunate customers who has a SERO plan, (which is very similar to some our SimplyEverything plans) you do not have to change you plan to one of our Simply Everything plans. I hope this email has stopped your dreams from being crushed. Thank you again for contacting Sprint. We appreciate your business. Please feel free to use dan@sprint.com whenever you have any other questions or comments. Thank you again for contacting Sprint. We appreciate your business.
Sincerely,

Use your instincts and come to papa! Can’t wait until June!

Tina says:

My Sprint Contract expires in July. I was going to switch to AT&T for iPhone. I have been a Sprint customer since 1999 and never really had any problem with them. If I can get Sprint Instinct for at least $100-150 less than the iPhone (I am an existing customer so I don’t get the new line activation deal and $150 discount for existing customer is much lower than discount for new line activation), I might stay.

susan says:

what is the instinct going to cost?

Paul says:

I have seen the articles in the Boston Globe and some trade articles that the Instinct will be $200, but it doesn’t say if that is with new activation, on an upgrade or straight purchase. But with IPhone going for 299 and 499 the 200 price tag should be a bargain. My main concern is will it be able to sync with Microsoft Outlook and import by Itune library that I have already paid for?

Demon says:

I’ve read from several sites that it will be $200-250. For everything that the phone offers, that’s a very reasonable price. And if you’re coming up on a 2-year upgrade, you’re in pretty good shape. I definitely can’t wait to get this phone!

Tajjuana says:

I simply want to preorder the phone. I have placed my email address on record at the sprint.com website so that I can get the phone the very day that it comes out, but it is a little hard to be prepared when no one at sprint seems to be able to quote a price yet. By the way, I have called a few times for the release date and have been given June 15th, 17th, and just today the 20th….if anyone has a definite date…can u post it here? I have the Treo 755p and absolutely love it, but I can’t wait to get this new toy.

Charlene says:

I am very excited that sprint has such an awesome phone to add to there awesome coverage!! I have been a customer since 95 and wilol continue on….

Charlene says:

according to Beta NEWS
Beginning June 20, Instinct customers will initially have to make a $449.99 purchase through Sprint, with a $150 instant rebate and a $100 mail-in rebate to all customers who sign a two-year phone agreement — which is how the carrier arrives at $199. And Sprint is forcing all Instinct owners to sign up for its Sprint Everything or Simply Everything mobile phone plan, either of which offers more benefits but costs more than a regular phone plan.

malik jaliwa says:

when i called sprint yesterday i was told that the instinct will be released on the 25th of june. it doesnt seem like the sprint staff is aware of the actual release date and price. but regardless of when it comes out i am going to be one of the first in line. and its so awesome that its not a windows mobile device because i had the mogul and the moto q, both them sub par.

J-mon says:

Got mine today, actually 13 min ago, yes the Instict has landed. =)

Music says:

Where did you get it?

chi dude says:

I got mine yesterday 6/19/08. I like it so far. I have been with Sprint since 1999 and have none of the horror stories to share that I have heard from others. I like this phone so far. It has a cool factor. I am allergic to ATT so if they remain exclusive to the IPhone, I will NEVER own one! I also like Sprints new share plan. I have two phones at 1500 anytime mins unlimited (text, video, pic, data, telnav, radio, tv. $129

Um find me a plan like that at ATT or Vz!!!

Randy says:

have heard competing views, does it sync with outlook?

Chelsea says:

Wow - just e-mailed to dan@sprint.com - that’s the Pres and CEO! Whoops! Anyway, I asked about putting an Instinct onto a family plan, maybe with an added data bundle. Auto-response said they’d get back to me in a week. Anyone tried this already? Lemme know. Otherwise I’ll post up their answer when I get it…

Brandon says:

I bought my Instinct last Friday, and I have to say, I’m in love. I know that there’s a bunch of Apple fans out there who want it to be an iWorld, but this phone and competitive market is good for everyone. I’ve sync’d the phone up with 3 different E-mail accounts, one being Outlook from my work. It works fine, everything about this phone is chic and easy to use. I was planning on getting a GPS anyway, and this is so much more worth it. I was already spending about 100 bucks a month with Sprint before I got the phone. All I can say is that this whole deal is completely worth it. Yes the TV video settings kinda suck and it doesn’t take up full screen. There is no flash with the onboard camera…and the screen doesn’t change when you turn it to the side. But I wasn’t looking for an iPhone. I was looking for a badass phone with the same company that I was with, for a damn good price. Get it, you won’t regret it!

mike says:

does the phone have adobe? I’m used to getting faxes on my phone I now have a centro and like being able to read my documents I was told by sprint that it will not read pdf’s or tif does anyone know if this is true thanx

Robert says:

i got mine yesterday and found that you cant sinn into ebay. Seems that anywhere you need a username and password, it wont let you sign in???Dc

Pat says:

Chelsea, If you want a family plan for the Instinct, you would want to go with one of the Talk/Message/Data Share plans, there are presently two of those a 1500 minute plan for 129.99 and a 3000 minute for 169.99. These prices cover lines one and two additional are 19.99; the plans include nights and weekends from 7pm, unlimited mobile to mobile (anyone on Sprint Network), unlimited picture, text, and video messaging, also unlimited data including navigation. The overage cost per minute is .40 for the 1500 plan and .25 for the 3000.

Queen says:

if you go to sprint.com and type sprint price plans in search it gives all the new prices–the instinct is great–phone will work on all 5 of the new titled simply plans–but the ones without data won’t be much fun on the instinct since the Navigation,Text(pic, video, text),web,–etc are all on the data service–the plans are great and if you by one plan at 99.99 the next is only 94.99–all details at sprint.com–yes it has mobile sync and the first ever visual voice mail–Kudos to Sprint for the new fun phone perfect for the breaks and keeping in touch in a day and age when we are limited on the office computer (no personal business please) and need Sprint TV to keep up with the latest shows, sports , news, etc…

Queen says:

Robert–tap the home key then the main key then tap settings and pull the page up and choose the web browser key then turn the privacy mode off and leave the java on–the reason you can’t sign in is you have your cookies blocked–down forget why your there you can clear history. This will allow you to sign in now it will not auto fill so you have to sign in each time when you get there but you can add to favorite list for easy access

Queen says:

No PDF files it is not a PDA–so if your using Docs to go for your palm PDA–this phone has alot of extra’s but it is not a PDA–but the new one’s(PDA’s)are coming soon–

Paul says:

To my knowledge, you are able to attach files such as pictures and send with the instinct, but you are not able to open and view attachments such as PDF files and excel spreadsheets. Stick with the Centro if you want to have Microsoft Mobile capabilities.

Paul says:

ps. Ordered my Instinct on the 25th, and it is already on backorder status. Can’t wait to get my paws on it!!! Has anyone heard about how long the delays are going to be?

Yo Yo says:

well i guess i got lucky, i ordered my Instinct and it came the very next day.. Love the fast shipping. Also the Instinct is great, but it really don’t have some of the features that are on the Iphone that i am realy liking. I haven’t been able to put movies on my phone, Also when i download video or pics to the card from my pc, the phone can’t seem to find them. it is not located on the phone at all unless i plug it back up to the computer and search from there. i don’t like the fact that the phone tends to vibrate every 30 mins or so for absolutly no reason at all. I have never been alble to get the battery to 100%. it will say charging complete, but as soon as i unplug it and check the battery stauts, it is always at 90%. The phone become inoperable at 30% battery.

I feel i got the phone a little to early before all the kinks were worked out.

Oh one more thing i can’t seem to find, is where u can assign your own personal ring tones to people. I have to use the ones already on the phone.

lucy says:

My family is switching plans to the everything plan becuase my dad has the instinct. i am wanting to get it but can you have 2 instincts on the same plan?
