Welcome to Sunday University - a new innovative approach to learning!
Sunday U is designed with you in mind. Come join us for an hour each week to grow in your walk with Christ while connecting with others in the PFA family. Regardless of your interests or background, we have a place for you!
Here’s how it works:
Sunday U is designed on a trimester basis offering three, twelve (12) week sessions per year. Our spring sessions run every Sunday at 9:00 a.m. April 6th through June 22nd, 2008. We will break for the summer then resume with our fall session September 7th through November 23rd 2008. And then we’ll begin again in January 2009.
Each session offers a variety of courses to choose from designed to offer something for everyone. SU is created to give you the opportunity to experience a variety of instructors and topics. We encourage you to try out new classes each session, meeting new people, and connecting with others as we grow together in Christ.
Classes are held on our lower campus with convenient parking and easy access to classrooms. There is a map on the back page to help you find your class. Got kids? Check out the back page for special classes for them as well.

Janie Clark has been a financial planner with over 28 years of experience in teaching others about God’s perspective on finances. Crown is taught by a team of teachers who have taken the stewardship journey themselves.

THROUGH PRAYER AND FASTING Prayer Pavilion - Pastor Saeed Hosseini
Aspects of prayer and fasting including; what is prayer? Hearing God’s Voice, avoiding hindrances to prayer and more. This class will benefit both beginners and veteran prayer warriors.
Pastor Saeed Hosseini leads the Prayer Ministry at Phoenix First. He directs the 24-hour Prayer Pavilion on campus and oversees all prayer groups at Phoenix First.
F602 - Pastors Don and Sharon Henning
A study on the incredible love that Jesus has for us. It is a love that never changes, asks for nothing in return, and never fails.
Pastors Don & Sharon Henning have been team teaching God’s Word for 25 years. They are creative teachers using multi-media, hand-out tools, and lots of love. They have been married for 50 years.
The class for Mature Christians A - 102 - Dennis & Loretta Phillips and Doug & Denise Preudhomme
Centered on prayer, learning God’s Word – and loving each other. Currently studying Paul’s Epistles: “Postcards (for today) from Paulâ€. Designed for Senior Adults.
Dennis Phillips is an executive for a major organization presenting the message of Yeshua to Jewish people worldwide. Doug Preudhomme works daily with many national ministries helping them to grow and reach their God given objectives
Seniors and Special People ministry A-101 - Cherie Brown
This class will help you walk in and maintain the inner strength God has given you! Ephesians 3:16.
Cherie Brown has been a member of Phoenix First for 20 years. She is a gifted worshipper and has great compassion for Special People.
F616 - Pastor Fred Ah Kuoi
This class is designed to be interactive, displaying God’s plan for your health, fitness and well being. Come and be transformed in one hour and see what God says about how we should care for our bodies both physically and spiritually.
Pastor Fred Ah Kuoi, Athletics Pastor, heads up the Phoenix First Family Life Center. A physical trainer, life coach and former professional rugby league player, Fred is passionate about encouraging and inspiring the body of Christ to discover their full potential in God.
For Men only F612 - Jason DeBus
What is Gods mission for your life? This class creates a foundation for “Christ likeness†that will challenge men to develop your leadership qualities in your marriage, home, workplace, and community. A class for men only.
Jason DeBus, a member of Phoenix First for over 23 years, was appointed Director of Phoenix First Men in May 2007. Jason and his wife Heather have two children, John and Miah.
E507/508 - Stan Reynolds
Science and the Bible: A fascinating thought provoking study of how astronomy, physics, macroevolution and other scientific studies compare with biblical creation. This class is for everyone with an interest in understanding how the universe declares the greatness of God.
Stan Reynolds holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in both science and business. His classes focus on the rational basis for biblical faith. Member of Phoenix First since 1970 and current Phoenix First Board Member.
F604 - Pastor David Blythe
Let’s talk about it. Join us as we discuss real life issues concerning daily living. Everyone participates as we identify – discuss – and resolve from a Biblical perspective.
Pastor David Blythe serves as pastor of Phoenix First’s Young Adult and Singles ministries. He is passionate about helping people to pursue and fulfill their destiny in Christ.
F605 - Anthony Feola The life and ministry of Jesus
What made Jesus so attractive to the multitudes? What was it about His teaching that made Him so controversial? Why was it that even when He went “out to deserted places†the people still found Him? We will study the life and ministry of Jesus and find out why He was, is, and always will be relevant to all people in every generation.
Anthony Feola is a graduate of Word of Life Bible School and Missions School in Uppsala, Sweden. He has also led mission teams to India, Kazakhstan, and China. He and his family are faithful members of Phoenix First Assembly.
F606/607 - Pastor Luke Barnett
A course designed to equip believers for effective evangelism in today’s world while avoiding stereotyped approaches that feel intimidating to many Christians. Instead, it shows ordinary believers how they can create ripples in their sphere of influence by sharing the gospel in a natural and powerful way, while being the person God made them to be. Each session’s exercises, discussions, and self-assessments give step-by-step guidance to help participants become effective communicators for Christ to those around them.
Pastor Luke Barnett, Phoenix First’s Ministry Development Pastor has a rich Christian heritage that allows him many insights into the Christian faith. In 2006, Luke accepted the position of Associate Pastor working for the first time alongside his father at Phoenix First. Luke and his wife Angel have two beautiful daughters, Aubrey and Annalee.
F614 - Valerie McNally
Learn to share your faith in an upfront and powerful way, preparing you for outreach ministries like Adopt-a-Block, Dream Center, Church on the Street, and one-on-one evangelism. You will learn how to share your faith the way Jesus did, and how to use the “gifts of the Spirit†in ministering to others.
Valerie McNally, along with her husband, Michael, has been members of Phoenix First since 1991. She graduated from Chicago State University with a degree in Education.
F617 - Gwen & Arnold Tackett
Ministering the healing power of Jesus Christ to those who have suffered abuse. This class is also for those desiring to minister to those who have been abused.
Arnold and Gwen Tackett are licensed pastors whose testimony is one displaying the healing power of Jesus Christ. They have walked through many difficult marital and family situations. They openly proclaim the power of Jesus to heal, restore and totally revolutionize lives.
Is God in Your Marriage? F615 - Ben and Gina Villa
Newly married? This class targets couples in their 30s and younger. Come connect with others who are “just starting out†like you. This session we will be studying the Purpose of Marriage, Your Position in Marriage and the Passion of Marriage.
Ben & Gina Villa are anointed to encourage and equip young couples. As a teaching medical professional, Ben trains pediatric intensive care nurses to help save at risk and preemie babies lives. They are anxious to help newly married couples build strong foundations in Christ.
From Good to Great Youth Pavilion - Pastor Leo & Molly Godzich
With the culture coming against marriage, learn the Ten Timeless Truths every good marriage needs to be strengthened into a great one…make yours great, too!
Pastor Leo Godzich is pastor of the marriage ministry here at Phoenix First. Additionally, he and his wife Molly are the founders of NAME, the National Association of Marriage Enhancement. They are authors and producers of marriage strengthening resources often utilized in their classes.
