The Peacemakers Youth Leadership Institute serves younger youth, ages 14-18 and older youth, ages 19-21, utilizing a risk avoidance/crime prevention curriculum, "A Life Options Curriculum". This curriculum was founded by Rosalie Manor Family and Community Services nearly 20 years ago in Milwaukee, WI. The program promotes positive youth development and leadership skills by sending a clear and consistent message that avoiding out of wedlock pregnancy, drugs, alcohol, tobacco and violence provides positive life outcomes for youth.
The course is evaluated annually by the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, Center for Urban Initiatives and Research (UWM, CUIR), and have pre and post attitudinal and behavior surveys in place to measure program impacts. Youth completing the program document statistically significant gains in risk avoidance, educational achievement and pre-employment/work and career readiness competencies. The curriculum is currently used in 25 cities, serving tens of thousands of at-risk youth each year. All youth are tracked through a web-based data reporting system managed by UWM CUIR and their evaluation partner, Angela M. Turner Consulting (AMTC).
