LIving Off Of The Land
Sue and I have always talked the talk about going off of the grid. But it’s something that’s a lot easier to talk about than to actually do. It took us a year of soul searching to yank The Boy Genius out of school. And it took us many summers of staring at the empty space in our backyard to put a vegetable garden into it.
Now with our brand spanking new crop (note the owl keeping guard) and a few farmers, we are very close to our goal of only eating food that either came from our garden or came from a source we can vouch for. With very few exceptions (seafood for example) everything we are eating came from within a days drive of our home.
And in the caring for myself department, having seen one too many proverbial “guy my own age” succumb to a health crisis, I’ve decided to take the bull by the horns. I’m two weeks into a cleanse diet - no caffeine, no cheese, no wheat products, only organic foods - and I’m already feeling like I’ve regained ten years.
So don’t be shocked the next time you see me… if I don’t have that usual bottle of diet coke attached to my hand.
Crawling From The Wreckage
Yesterday my MacBook Pro slowed to a grinding halt. Even an emergency visit my friendly neighborhood Genius Bar couldn’t bring her back to life. So after much gritting of teeth and crossing of fingers, I decided to wipe the sucker clean and reinstall from scratch.
After all, it’s amazing how much of your stuff is out there in the cloud.
So now I’m more or less back and intact. A few stray files and emails still to find and for some reason, iTunes doesn’t like talking to the external drive, but we’ll work all of that out soon.
And now back to our regularly scheduled blogging.
Speaking of Orlando
Blog Orlando is a no-questions asked must attend for the social media marketing blogochatosphere. Josh never fails to put together a fantastic line up of interesting people and experts from every walk of life and profession.
This year’s BlogOrlando is scheduled for September 25 - 27.
This year, I’m doing something a bit different. I told Josh I’d love to talk but I felt the “Blogging Meets Marketing” meme was a bit tired, at least for me. It was time for me to let others speak on the subject. So this year I’ll be leading a discussion on how social media is impacting education. Given my interest and experience in the topic as a homeschooling parent, this is a topic I’ve wanted to explore for a while. So I’m looking forward to learning more myself as September approaches.
Joining A Club That Will Have Me As A Member
Last month, Chris Heuer (a.k.a., the hardest working man in social media business) asked me and 40 some odd others to help chart a new course for the Social Media Club. Today we’re announcing the formalization of that process with the introduction of the new Interim Board.
The new interim board has been charted to address several key organizational and strategic deliverables, including development of membership goals, acceleration of local chapter development, increase in adoption of industry standards and implementation of a new legal structure to enhance future growth.
Here’s the formal announcement.
I’m honored to be joining some of the best and brightest in this field to drive the growth of the Social Media Club. On a personal note, Chris and Kristie are two of the best people I’ve met in my journey through the world of social media. And the group they’ve assembled is top notch.
