Dan H (8/12/05 16:06)

“If a minister be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink; For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee.” Proverbs 25:21-22 KJV adapted

“If a minister hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink; for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.” Romans 12:20 KJV adapted

During the days of King Solomon, and then later in the days of Paul the Apostle, having a fire ready for cooking a meal was very important.  We now only have to strike a match and we have “instant fire,” but not during biblical times.  When traveling, a woman would sometimes carry on her head a pottery jar containing hot coals in order to have a means to cook the next meal.  Sometimes, a caring, concerned, person along the way would add a hot coal or two to the container to keep the “fire” alive.  This act of kindness and love would always be appreciated by the person receiving the help.  Keeping the fire alive was vitally important.

We are instructed to give food, to give drink, and to give help in keeping the fire alive to those who are our enemies.  Certainly we should do these things for our friends and family.

The COALS Connection is being established in the North Texas District so that we may do exactly that in the Spirit for our fellow ministers.  We want to help satisfy the spiritual hunger and thirst of our co-laborers and help them keep the fire of the Spirit alive with “coals of fire.”

Thus, the “COme   ALong Side” Connection is designed as a help and a resource for assisting the minister and the ministry of the Assemblies of God in North Texas!
