Thirty employees from the Springfield corporate office of Bass Pro Shops were laid off today, according to Communications Manager Larry Whiteley.

Employees who were laid off were told on Friday that they would not need to return to work on Monday.

The 30 positions came from every department of the corporate office, Whiteley said, including marketing, video and merchandising.

Whiteley said the decision was due to stresses in the economy — though the company doesn't anticipate further layoffs.

The positions cut on Friday will likely not be restored, he said.

“We are going to be helping them try to find other jobs in every way we can,” Whiteley said.

Employees were offered severance packages and their vacation pay, Whiteley said. He said employees would also keep their health insurance for an undisclosed amount of time.

The Bass Pro Shop corporate office has 2,500 employees.
