Over Memorial Day weekend I decided it was time to clean out the garage. It hadn’t been done since we moved into our house a little over a year ago. Since the garage has been serving as the storage area for boxes of stuff that doesn’t yet have a place, our cars have been banished to the driveway from day one. Sometime back in the 1990s we witnessed a shift in the spiritual climate of our culture. Emerging from the “God is Dead” philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche and what has been called secularization, spirituality and talking about God became chic. Sure, religious thought and expression were still looked upon with skepticism, but the window of acceptance was opening for spirituality.
