Check out this Scientific American article that details the massive amounts of water used to produce our energy - in an increasingly water-strapped world. Then consider one of the issues with the T. Boone Pickens energy plan - much of the U.S. natural gas reserves require - you guessed it - lots of water to extract. And some ‘fracking’ chemical additive whose identify the industry refuses to divulge.

For all the political rhetoric about ‘The Children’ (don’t pols always trot them out to defend positions on…well just about everything?), it seems like the US really doesn’t give a shit about The Children. How else can you explain the INS treating children like animals, or the hundreds of thousands of American children that went hungry in 2007?
I mean like - WTF?!?

By ‘change’ the Dem leadership apparently meant a return to Status Quo Ante. Ante Shrubya, anyway. Looks like the new cabinet is going to be composed of reheated Clinton Admin left-overs.
Worse, guess who not only stays in the Dem Caucus, but who also gets to keep his plum Homeland Security Chairmanship? Loserman.
Guess we’ll need to keep the site going, I’m sure there will be plenty to rail about over the next four years!

(NOTE: I’ll have an actual post on this subject coming up one of these days…)

Here’s the lead sentence in the final paragraph of a press release by the presidential transition today:
Jim Messina currently Director of Personnel for the transition team of President-Elect Barak Obama.
I’d been meaning to needle Green Boy about his persistent misspelling of our new president’s name, but if the guy’s own staff can’t get it straight, maybe I shouldn’t bother. (The missing verb is in the sentence is just a bonus.)

“Thanks for explaining how to use the bureaucracy to circumvent the President and impose my own policies… Hillary passes along her thanks, too!”
(Via Reuters: “Vice President Dick Cheney bids farewell to Vice President-elect Joe Biden, following their nearly hour-long visit at the vice president’s residence at the U.S. Naval Observatory in Washington.”)

Hot off the wires from the Associated Press:
President-elect Barack Obama says he’s resigning from the Senate, effective Sunday.
. . . The move was expected. Obama won the presidency last week over Republican John McCain.
I like the understatement in that last paragraph. Did he have a choice? Does the Constitution have explicit procedures for this, or could Obama technically have kept his day job, so to speak?
(Just as a guess without looking, I’d imagine that he’d automatically surrender his Senate seat upon taking the oath of office, and this is just to give his replacement a head start. But the alternative possibilities are amusing.)
