[image]Search by protein similarity

Because 3D structure is strongly conserved in molecular evolution, one can often make valid inferences concerning structure and function by examining the structures of related proteins. To find a structure for a protein or related proteins, use the following procedure:

Find the protein sequence of interest using an accession or keyword search in Entrez's protein database (use blastp if the sequence is new and not in Entrez). If the protein has a link to "Related Structures," click on it. If your query returns a long list of proteins, you can filter the list to show only proteins with links to structures. To do this, select "Structure Links" in the drop down text-box next to the "Display" button, and then click on the "Display" button. If no structures are displayed, click on the "Related Sequences" link to retrieve a list of all similar sequences. Repeat the prior two steps. The alignment of a a sequence of interest and the related 3D structure may be displayed in NCBI's sequence-structure viewer, Cn3D, by importing the sequence into the sequence window.

If all else fails, try using blastp against the pdb database.
