Jimmie Johnson won his third straight title on Sunday matching the indomitable Cale Yarborough. Thus ended an era in which no driver had accomplished such a feat. Should Johnson be able to pull off another title in the coming years, he will sit alongside car owner Jeff Gordon as current drivers with 4 titles to their name. Should he pull off that feat in 2009, he will be in the company of 1 with 4 consecutive titles.
Kudos to the entire 48 team and the Hendrick organization. Three titles is no small accomplishment and 3 straight is, well, almost unheard of. As hard as it is to win in today’s NASCAR, they have set the bar high for the 2009 title run.

I am a big fan of Top Gear, although I have to listen a lot of times with the mute button turned on… and I am also thankful for the DVR feature of my satellite TV system, so I can skip some other parts.
According to the folks at Jalopnik, in last night’s episode of Top Gear, Jeremy Clarkson put the show’s engineering talents to work on building an answer to a question we never knew we had; Can you build a blender out of a 6.2-liter LS3 V8 Corvette engine? The answer, as you can see in the video below the jump, is yes. It’s simply astonishing to watch a 436 HP, 424 lb-ft of torque metal monster rip up some meat. We all know Clarkson’s got a thing for power, but who knew it extended from the track into the kitchen?

I heard from a friend of a friend (you know how it goes) that most of the DEI employees who were let go last week were told about their dismissals Friday after Homestead qualifying in their haulers.
We expect this to be a week of lots of things going on as teams get their situations in order as much as they can for 2009, so look for other “heard” postings here this week.

The NASCAR Nationwide Raybestos Rookie of the year trophy goes to Landon Cassill for the 2008 season. The 19 year old ran 20 races in 2008 with one start on the pole and five top ten finishes. His closest competor for the title was Bryan Clauson who came up a little short at the Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Another loooong year of stock car racing is behind us. Jr. was right. Unlike the NFL, this sport does not leave you wishing for more. It leaves you dragged out and wanting a long siesta during the winter…… ![[image]](http://mowser.com/img?url=http%3A%2F%2Fmotorsportsnews.net%2Fwordpress%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2Fwppa%2F97.jpg)

The race just ended, and Carl Edwards won his 9th race of the 2008 season.  Carl led the most laps, but Jimmie Johnson won the 2008 Sprint Cup by finishing 15th. The #48 is only the 2nd team every to win 3 championships in a row, and this is the first time it’s ever been done with the same crew chief.
Carl did his famous back-flip, then went over to congratulate Jimmie as he drove by in his car.

TV racecaster Bill Weber was an interesting guest on that Sunday’s WINDTUNNEL program on Speed. Weber covers NASCAR for TNT, the ALMS on various networks and Speed’s coverage of the CORR Off Road Series. Weber talked about how good a deal the CORR Series is for the paying fans. Bill still likes the Chase To The Nextel Cup concept but it needs some tweaking right now. He’s like to see the point system changed and if a driver didn’t make the top ten then there would be no points. He was also concerned that the meltdown of the economy is going to have a major impact on NASCAR and motorsports in general. On a related item, Danny Sullivan, a former Indy 500 winner, is high on the CORR Series and is a partner/driver in a race team. Sullivan’s presence in CORR gives that series a boost.

NASCAR is expected to announce a “no testing” policy for Sprint Cup, Nationwide Series, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series or NASCAR Camping World East or West Series for the 2009 season.
Teams will also not be able to test at tracks at which any of those series compete.
Thanks to friend Chris Knight from www.Catchfence.com for this information.
… an update from www.Jayski.com
NASCAR has banned all testing at its sanctioned tracks next season in an effort to help teams save several million dollars in their 2009 budgets. The moratorium, which includes the traditional “preseason” Daytona 500 testing, is for all three of NASCAR’s top divisions. Teams will not be permitted to test at any track where a Sprint Cup, Nationwide Series or Truck Series event is held. NASCAR informed teams of its decision Friday morning at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The decision is an about-face from just a few months ago, when NASCAR was considering widening the testing schedule to as many as 24 days at any track.(Associated Press)(11-14-2008)
