From the Jerusalem Post re the Heatwave festival

The much-touted Heatwave Festival on July 29 featuring Morrissey, The New York Dolls and Siouxsie Sioux is showing signs of not being able to withstand the heat.

For starters, sluggish ticket sales prompted the promoters last week to move the show from the very optimistic Ganei Yehoshua at Hayarkon Park to the more confined outdoor area of the Israel Trade Fairs and Convention Center in Tel Aviv. And in the latest development, Sioux, formerly lead singer of the punk era Siouxsie and the Banshees, cancelled her participation in the show due to "bureaucratic reasons," according to the producers. Her slot will be filled by Israeli artist Assaf Avidan.

On the plus side, the Dolls announced a second show in the country, a night after the festival, at the Barbie Club.

boycott (Score:1)

So far Siouxsie has cancelled for "bureaucratic" reasons. Bjork has cancelled for "logistical" reasons. Snoop Dog also cancelled his show for "contractual difficulties."

Looks like the call for boycott is working on some artists. It will be a shame if Morrissey is the only artist to cross the line.

international politics.
His only interest seems to be how attractive the leaders are (see his ridiculous comments about Irish and UK leaders recently).
He hasn't got a clue about the Palestinian/Israel issue. If he had, and had any sensitivity, he wouldn't have made that nauseating 'God bless Israel' video. Unbelievable.

..if Morrissey does persist in playing this gig, he makes reference to the plight of the Palestinians and is very critical of the Israeli regime.

So I'm going to reserve judgement before criticising Morrissey. I'm sure he does know what's going on, surely he does. He's an intelligent man. Now he goes on all the time about meat, and ofcourse he's absolutely entitled to do so. But to make constant remarks about that and make no reference to the oppression that Israel inflicts upon its neighbours would not only be stupid, it would be cold and heartless, and seemingly against everything he's stood for his entire life. He's always spoke for the underdog, the outsiders, the oppressed. To not say anything would be a disaster, almost as if he's lost touch with reality and himself.

But I'm confident he will say something. He's shown he's not scared to speak his mind, he fears nobody and hopefully he'll have the common sense to say something. A few remarks, maybe changing the words to Irish Blood, English Heart, something like that. In that case I think he'd have done the right thing, perhaps even more sensible than boycotting.

Before people start, lets end all this nonsense about being somehow anti-semitic if you speak out against Israel. I, and many others do not have a problem with Jews, we have a problem with the actions of the Israeli state. That's a different thing.

I was at Qumran yesterday near the Dead Sea where the history-changing Dead Sea Scrolls were found in 1947, and where the Essenes lived for a short while in caves and stone buildings in the first century. There's some evidence that John the Baptist lived for two years with these rebel Jewish hermits, who rejected the corrupt orthodox authorities of the time.

Anyone who dips in the Dead Sea itself will know the pleasure of it, enhanced by a rub of the rich mud oozing out of the ground and a soak in the sulphar baths before showering in fresh water provided.

A few minutes ago I purchased my ticket for the Morrissey show in Castel ticket office in Tel Aviv. Most of the queue were buying for the same event, a last minute rush in the countdown to the descent of the Mozziah!
