A Dad's Fantasy

Forget the sappy card, the perfect photo and the new neck tie, this guy was blown away by his Father's Day gift. Read his personal diary entry.

Momlogic Dad Jason: The anticipation was high, yet none of us pressed too hard for revealing clues as we waited for the babies to sleep so we could get down to business: our Father's Day treat was close at hand. Thing was, we had rocked the house in such a solid fashion for Mother's Day by cooking our wives a "Top Chef" dinner, it was very hard to picture being topped.

After being instructed to remain outside and not come in under any circumstances, we got fired up. Everything pointed to a dinner event, and while we could not figure out why the shroud of secrecy was so thick, we were looking forward to it. Then our wives walked out, each carrying two tall beer glasses. Two tall, curved, beautiful beer glasses that could serve only one purpose -- to hold lots of beer. Hello, friends.

At first, we assumed they had just instinctively known that by giving us each two glasses, it would mean we would be hard pressed to run out of ale. That would have been awesome in and of itself. But their true purpose was even greater--this was a beer tasting (and food pairing too, but seriously, it was a beer tasting)! Game on.

After the ladies put down the cheese plate with fresh grapes and poured us each a Pale Ale and a micro brew, it was time to get down to business. We really didn't know what to say, but after a few moments of stunned silence as they disappeared into the house, Jon summed it up best: "We married well." Yes, indeed.

The courses that followed: two shrimp appetizers, a duo of sliders with Gorgonzola fries, and a chocolate lava cake dessert --all paired perfectly with beers that enhanced their flavor. Turns out citrus-accented Hefies go well with seafood. Dark Porters go perfectly with chocolate. Who knew?

Soon we were done, and our lovely hostesses came out to join our drunk asses. Luckily, they had indulged themselves while in the kitchen, so they did not mind that we were hammered--or maybe it was because we couldn't stop talking about how much they kicked ass. Either way, my first Father's Day was one I'll never forget. Cheers.

My husband would LOVE me if I did this for him. I’m not sure he deserves it, though.
