First Monday Meeting

Monday, November 29th, 2004

We’re going to be having the first meeting as Mobile Monday next week, Dec 6th. Here are the details:

Where: 21st Amendment (http://www.21st-amendment.com/) 563 2nd Street in San Francisco When: December 6th starting at 7:00pm Who: Anyone interested in mobility RSVP: miker at bitsplitter.net

The Monday meetings are going to be more community focused. Russ provided some pointers in his previous post to the events that go on in other places. In general the events are face-to-face networking events where people involved with or interested in mobility can get together. In particular we’re encouraging people to bring by their “toys”. So if you have a new device or app that you just love please come and share. If you’re working on a product or service and want to show it off, please do so as well. Our goal is to get together to discuss and exchange ideas. For those who made it to the BAMF meeting during CTIA, that’s what we’re aiming for. For those who didn’t make it during CTIA, come by next week and check it out.

I’m asking for an RSVP this time so that we can give an estimate to the restaurant, please let me know if you’re planning to attend. Unless there’s some problem with the venue, future Mobile Monday events will be held at the same time (the first Monday of the month at 7:00pm) and in the same place. Ahh, predictability. Hope to see you all there!!!

BAMF becomes Mobile Monday USA

Friday, November 26th, 2004

So after about six months and four cool meetings, it’s become obvious that the biggest challenge to getting the Bay Area Mobility Forum working like clockwork was the calendar itself. Figuring out when to hold a meeting (and then where) has been the reason we haven’t had more of them.

Then the other day I saw this great video about Mobile Monday in Japan, saw that there’s a Mobile Monday in Finland and decided that really what’s needed is a a Mobile Monday USA! Thus BAMF is now MobileMonday.us. Yes, it’s a bit unilateral, but hey, the domain was free. :-)

This solves the main problem - meetings are now on the first Monday of every month. Easy! Also, I’m hoping that now that the name is more generic, we can include other cool groups like BayCHI and other groups to join in. We’ll keep track of the major announcements here and try to get a mailing list going as well.

I’m excited about the change. Love to hear your thoughts! Oh, and see you on Dec. 6th!

-Russ
