Will Carlton Pearson 'Win'?

His Tulsa megachurch may have shrunken to the size of a country chapel, but Pentecostal universalist Carlton Pearson is convinced that his "new" take on hell will eventually be adopted by the rest of the church, as he claimed at the end of his appearance last Friday on Dateline.

The crazy thing about Pearson's theology is not merely that he thinks he has come up with a revolutionary revelation: Pearson joins the ranks of various Christians who taught an "alternative" view of eternal punishment--from 2nd-century church father, Origen, to 20th-century religious philosopher, John Hick. No, the strange thing about Pearson is how he claims he came up with the belief system he calls "inclusionism." (Interestingly, he avoids--or is unaware of--the theological terms "inclusivism" and "universalism".)

For instance, although misled in his exegetical method, Origen was at least careful in applying it to Scripture to concoct his own version of universalism. Likewise, Hick painstakingly dissects philosophy to defend his brand of universalism. In contrast, Pearson's method is a liberal application of old-fashioned, homespun horse sense--perhaps attractive to those who would sniff at Origen's complicated exegesis or Hick's cerebral philosophizing.

Questioning Pearson's universalist worldview, the NBC interviewer asked, "Is Hitler in hell?" and Pearson replied, "You think Hitler’s more powerful than the blood of Jesus?" With this line of reasoning, we're led to believe that it is denigrating to the power of the cross to suggest that Hitler could be in hell.

Another of his methods is to poke fun at his legalistic upbringing: "We were told not to laugh. Stop all the jesting and joking. ... God gonna get you. The devil gonna get you. ... So we had all that mentality. Be good. Be godly. Be right. Be holy. ... Or else you go to hell." Here, he wants us to think that, since his parents were wrong about why people go to hell (i.e. not being good enough), they must have been wrong about a lot of other things (e.g. hell existing in the first place).

Then the clincher: Pearson recalls watching TV reports of suffering Rwandan refugees and thinking, "
God, I don’t know how you’re gonna call yourself a loving God and allow those people to suffer so much and then just suck them into hell." Apparently, Pearson believes that we can somehow atone for our own sins and avoid eternal punishment through suffering here on earth.

These "common-sense" objections to the traditional view of hell may resonate with the secular skeptic, but Pearson's noticeable avoidance of a coherent biblical argument should strike any thoughtful Christian as bizarre. If you intend to dismantle a cardinal doctrine built on two millennia of church history and Scriptural interpretation, you need more than a handful of witty one-liners. It's like trying to take down the Brooklyn Bridge with a butter knife.

At the end of the interview, Pearson is shown promising his congregation that
"a great shifting" and "a great anointing" will make the church more open to his teachings. Then, he explains to the interviewer the process whereby he believes this shift will take place: "First, they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win." If he's right, and our core doctrines are vulnerable to these inch-deep objections, then maybe we're in worse shape than I thought.

Before the age of the microscope allowed us to see that maggots actually came from eggs laid by flies, people thought that flies "spontaneously generated" from rotting meat. Similarily, it's long been one of my contentions that heresy does not generate spontaneously--it is germinated, incubated and hatches in environments most conducive to its growth. The problem is that we often ignore the warning signs and then act like we've been taken by surprise when someone falls headlong into error. I've got my own ideas, but first I'm interested in hearing some of yours. What constitutes an environment conducive to heresy--and could we have predicted Pearson's theological drift by observing other aspects of his life and ministry before he announced his embrace of universalism?

Comments:
I always took Origen's theology with a grain of salt: you have to grant a guy who castrates himself a little slack. Besides, Origen was hugely influential in the attempts of the early church to articulate faith, redemption and a more complete picture of God, so he has also earned some more grace.
By comparison Pearson has appeared on television.
Score!

It is very sad indeed to watch and/or read just how far in error our brother, Carlton Pearson has gone. The devil will not win! I said devil, (not Carlton Pearson) because Rev. Pearson has allowed satan to infiltrate his mind and spirit. (Acts Chp 5)shows how this can happen and does happen. This teaching is not a "new revelation" as the Bishop seems to portray. This had to be setting in the deep places of his mind for a long time and finally came to the surface. In a very real sense, God does not send anyone to hell. People (yes,Hitler included) go there by choice. This "new revelation" of the Bishop did not happen just because he saw children suffering. But no-one except the Holy Spirit can change him on that or his "new" belief. And the Holy Spirit cannot change a person who has become unwilling to change.
I do pray that he will somehow recover himself from this damning heresy.

Anonymous, I couldn't agree with you more. Mr. Pearson will have to answer just like the rest of us for his actions here. I just hope that our prayers can help him see reality again before it's too late. Saints, continue to pray for him and so many others like him.

In being one who appreciated the ministry of Carlton Pearson for many years after meeting him the first time in a California COG church, I could not help but weep while watching the special on Date Line about his "new revelation" about hell.

He cannot say as Pentecost, he could not laugh or joke. He was
ALWAYS jovial in the pulpit and not only made humorous comments that made everyone laugh, but he also laughed, sang, danced, and had a great time.

God gave him a golden opportunity, that few black men had during the time he became famous. He had huge crowds and people loved him long before the TV personalities became famous, such as T. D. Jakes, Myles Monroe, and the long list of African-American tele-evangelists.

When I heard him tell about how he received his new revelation about HELL while watching the TV program about Africa, tear came to my eyes. I said aloud, "A lying demon talked to Carlton and he believed it." It was like the story in the OT about the false prophet who went to a man of God and told him something completely contrary to what God had spoken to him. But, he listened to the false prophet, and as a result he DIED.

Hopefully, Carlton Pearon will repent and turn back to Jesus Christ as his personal Savior before it is TOO late, lest he be turned over to a reprobate mind.

God forbid! We love him and are praying for him. He is a tremendous minister of the Word of God, and KNOWS the true doctrine. He is a fantastic singer, with personality PLUS. Now, he has a beautiful wife and lovely children. He had everything any man could want, including a mega-church with 5,000 in attendance and $60,000 weekly tithe.

He has been deceived by satan and truly needs prayer.

What would happen if the body of Christ started praying, in agreement, that the Holy Spirit would open Carlton Pearson's eyes? Just a thought, as prayer does change things.

It's sad that Carlton Pearson has "denied the FAITH which was once delivered to the saints!" (Jude, verse 3). Jesus talked about Hell in the New Testament more than he talked about heaven, and the words of Jesus in Rev 21:8, says, But the fearful, and unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Mr. Pearson could very possibly be in danger of hellfire himself, if he doesn't repent, and denounce his heretical beliefs of inclusivity, or whatever he calls it! One could ask why did God create the Devil; but the answer is God didn't create the Devil. God created an Angel, and that Angel made a Devil out of himself! Let us pray for Mr. Pearson, that he will be convicted of his sin of calling Christ a liar, and of preaching his false doctrine, and that he will ask the Lord to forgive him and reinstate him in the Body of Christ as a TRUE believer!

We have no right to celebrate in the Carlton Pearson case, but our eyes should be filled with tears, to see the greatness of what once was the leading African American preacher in the world, fall to nothing but a misguided man borderlining on having a cult instead of a church. I was once an Elder serving under Carlton Pearson, and he helped to launch my world wide ministry.

As the former Imperial Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, Carlton believed in me when so many others didn't, and he reconized the calling of God upon my life. I will always be grateful to him for that. I did however have to make a choice to part company with him, when he began to go off the deep end. I will always consider him my friend, but my heart cries out in deep sorry for him, to see such a good, kind-hearted man decieved with such an off-the-wall philosophy.

Carlton is asking people to believe him over the Word of God which never changes. To believe Carlton's "Gospel of Inclusionism" is to say that the Bible is a lie and that Jesus is a liar. Are we supposed to believe that God changed His mind and His word after saying His word never changes, and that God chose Carlton Pearson to let us all know the Bible is no longer valid? This is how cults get started and people end up drinking Kool-Aid.

Please pray that Carlton Pearson repents and tells everyone he was wrong. He will be forgiven and return to what he once was if he would just say he was wrong, and I will be one of the first to help him. If he doesn't, then he must continue on the course of going from conferences like Azusa which attracted 40,000 to preaching in cult churches of 50 or so, where old lesbians wash his feet. This is so sad.

King Nebuchadnezzar had thoughts of greatnest regarding himself. So much so that God took away his greatness.

Let's look at a couple of comments by Carlton Pearson on his TV interview.

1)About himself.
Pearson: You had to get the people happy. You had to sweat, and shout, and spit, and get emotional. But if you don’t perform in that pulpit, you’re a dead man.

Morrison: How good are you at that?

Pearson: I’m good—I’m one of the best of them.

2)And now what he says about his ministry.
Morrison: This was a significant enterprise you were running.

Pearson: It was a business, it was my business. It was my baby. It was my body.

NO doubt God has humbled him. BUT as I blogger said, the idea of inclusion may have been in his head for years, and only now manifested itself.

It was presumed he would be a preacher because it runs in the family. That he has fallen may indicate he NEVER was truly a believer to begin with.

Carlton pearson is a warning to all those highfalutin preacers to watch out. GOD is cleaning house.

I am just tired of all these big shot preachers who get these strange revelations from the Lord. I am weary of God changing His mind and saying something today that is contrary to the Word of God. Let's forget Carlton and return to the simple teaching of the Word of God. Why do we need gimmicks inthe first place? Can't we just "preach Jesus" and watch the Lord move?

Sorry, Carlton, I believe your're going to catch more "hell" from these so-called, self-righteous orthodox, than you will from God. Even the editor called you a "heretic." Well, for the record, no, I do not agree with your new-found theology either. But I refuse to be part of a modern-day witch hunt. The problem with some of these, "I think I know for sure what is right," religorist, is that they have too much time on their hands. Truth be told, they should be down in New Orleans and in the White House pontificating their "effective" theology. But we know tht won't happen, because it requires work, not talk...

It's funny a lot have people have commented, but no one has posted any SCRIPTURES that say unequivocally that everyone (even those who've never heard of Jesus?) who dies without Christ goes straight to hell and stays there eternally without any chance of release from continual pain, flames, and torment.

If you pull any scriptures to respond, please make sure they UNAMBIGUOUSLY NAIL every point mentioned above. Let's talk SCRIPTURE, not what one believes or thinks.

energy - Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

You can twist this however you want but it is pretty clear. It does not say if you have heard the gospel and don't live it.

The problem with this article is that the writer says that Carlton Pearson's argument does not have a firm biblical foundation. The correspondence that I have had with people from Mr. Pearson's camp shows that they do not believe in the infallibility of scripture. Thus they feel no need to defend their stance with scripture. That is always at the root.

Search the internet for threads they have participated in. It becomes clear.

For those who defend Mr. Pearson: In the above scripture passage, define idolatry for me. And show how someone could not inherit the kingdom, yet be under the doctrine of inclusion. You can't.

Repent and be restored to the faith! Your sin will damn you.

I hardly know about the man mentioned above but all I have to refre is this..."Gal 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. "

In response to "Sorry Carlton" who posted his comment at 8:39 a.m., I know the editor personally and can verify that he works very hard. Don't you think it's a little hypocritical to criticize others for "having too much time on their hands" while you are blogging? And for the record, "heretic" refers to anyone who disavows sound doctrine, and unfortunately, Bishop Pearson fits the descritpion. I don't think anyone is on a witch hunt in this situation; it is a matter of identifying heresy when it is being propagated.

Pastor Carlton Pearson
I'm praying for you my brother.God still love you and can reach you.

I, too, was saddened by Carlton Pearson's plummet from grace. However, no one pushed him . . . except the enemy and his flesh. I agree that he had to have this false belief underlying his preaching and thinking for many years; the enemy simply whispered in his ear "now is the time to release it." In addition, his first clue that this "revelation" was from God should have been the way this spirit spoke to him in response to the remark concerning a loving God sending people to hell. According to Pearson's testimony on Dateline, he quoted this spirit as saying: "Is that what you think WE are doing?" God never refers to Himself as WE; He is not the great WE ARE; He is the I AM. How dare Carlton deride those who "deserted him". They were protecting themselves and those who follow their ministries from heresy. I am not even sure if we SHOULD pray for him for in truth, he has crucified Christ afresh and trampled on the blood. By denying the work of the Holy Spirit in conversion and transformation, has he indeed blasphemed the Holy Spirit, for which there is no turning back? I think we should pray for those whom Carlton has deceived.

Well…I think I have to jump in here with some scripture as the last blogger suggested. The battle has raged between Calvinism and Arminianism for many years. I came to Christ 32 years ago as a 19 year old confused college student. Baptized in the Holy Spirit right away and learned much in FGBMFI meetings and local churches and small group meetings.

It was in the middle of the charismatic movement. I used to read LOGOS magazine all the time! A few years later I was shown many scriptures that related to God's redemptive plan from the foundation of the world. It all made sense that this God who made all things and who was living in me and exploding in me with love for everyone and all created things did not want anyone to perish but "would that all would be saved." I have not tried to pursue this but I believe the "seed" of this was planted in me by God's spirit. There are many scriptures, which is the only reason I have continued thinking this way, to support the witness and leading of the spirit in my life concerning these things. I rarely share it but the fact is there are many well known people who privately ponder these things in their heart. I have spoken to well known preachers and Bible teachers about this who privately see it could very well be God's ultimate plan to save mankind. "As in Adam all die, so also in Christ every man shall be made alive." Here's where we get into the questions about translations and exact meanings of the original. And whether “forever†and “everlasting†means “forever†as we understand it today or just a period of time as the original seems to show. I have looked at these things for over 25 years and continued to live in the love of God, not being a scholar but rather a father of 5 children and servant of God's people. I'm too busy with family, outreach, my job, and life to argue but I will now submit some scriptures which must be looked at. I know all the other counter scriptures but the truth is what sets you free and we must look at everything and see exactly what God is saying. And He does hide things for His own reasons which are all to be uncovered at the right time. I know His character and it is LOVE. I am told to forgive and I believe it is all through the power of the blood and the cross that we can ultimately be saved. Jesus does have the keys of hell and death and my job is to love everyone unconditionally and leave the judging to Him. So...here are some scriptures to ponder along with all the others:

Gen 12:3
And in you [Abraham] all the families of the earth will be blessed.

Num 14:20
So the Lord said [speaking to Moses, who is a foretype of Christ as our intercessor], "I have pardoned them according to your word; but indeed, as I live, all the earth will be filled with the glory of the Lord

I Chron 16:34
O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; For His mercy endureth forever.

II Chron 20;21
Give thanks to the Lord, for His mercy endureth forever.

Ps 22:27-30
All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations will worship before Thee. For the kingdom is the Lord's, and He rules over the nations. All the proud of the earth will eat and worship, even he who cannot keep his soul alive.

Ps 30:5
For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime; Weeping may last for the night, but a shout of joy comes in the morning.

Ps 65:2,5
To Thee all men come...Thou who art the trust of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest sea.

Ps 145:9-10
The Lord is good to all, and His mercies are over all His works. All Thy works shall give thanks to Thee, O Lord, and Thy godly ones shall bless Thee.

Ps 145:21
And all flesh will bless His holy name forever and ever.

Is 25:6-8
And the Lord of hosts will prepare a lavish banquet for all peoples on this mountain ...and on this mountain He will swallow up the covering which is over all peoples, even the veil which is stretched over all nations. He will swallow up death for all time, and the Lord God will wipe tears away from all faces.

Is 45:22-23
Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth; For I am God, and there is no other. I have sworn by Myself, the word has gone forth from My mouth in righteousness and will not turn back, that to Me every knee will bow, every tongue will swear allegiance.

Is 66:23
All mankind will come to bow down before Me, says the Lord.

Micah 7:18-19
Who is a God like Thee, who pardons iniquity and passes over the rebellious act of the remnant of His possession? He does not retain His anger forever, because He delights in unchanging love. He will again have compassion on us; He will tread our iniquities underfoot. Yes, Thou wilt cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.

Mal 2:10
Do we not all have one father? Has not one God created us?

Mt 18:12,14
What do you think? If any man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go and search for the one that is straying? Thus it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones perish.

Lk 2:10
And the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which shall be for all the people."

Jn 1:9
There was the true light which , coming into the world, enlightens every man.

Jn 1:29
The next day he [John the Baptist] saw Jesus coming to him, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!"

Jn 3:17
For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world; but that the world should be saved through Him.

Jn 5:25
Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear shall live.

Jn 5:28
Do not marvel at this; for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs shall hear His voice,

Acts 3;20-21
And that He may send Jesus, the Christ appointed for you, whom heaven must receive until the times of the restoration of all things about which God spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from ancient time.

Rom 5:18-20
So then as through one transgression there resulted condemnation to all men, even so through one act of righteousness there resulted justification of life to all men. For as through the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the One, the many will be made righteous. And the Law came in that the transgression might increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more!

Rom 8:19-21
For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will, but because of Him who subjected it in hope, that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God.

Rom 11:15
For if their rejection be the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?

Rom 11:32,33
For God has shut up all in disobedience that He might show mercy to all. Oh the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!

I Cor 15:22,28
For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all shall be made alive. But each in his own order... "And when all things are subjected to Him, then the Son Himself also will be subjected to the One who subjected all things to Him, that God may be all in all."

II Cor 5:14,15
For the love of Christ controls us, having concluded this, that one died for all, therefore all died; and He died for all, that they should no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf.

Phil 2:9-11
Therefore also God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those who are in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Col 1:19-22
For it was the Father's good pleasure for all the fulness to dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven. And although you were formerly alienated and hostile in mind, engaged in evil deeds, yet He has now reconciled you in His fleshly body through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach.

I Tim 2:5,6
For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony to be borne at the proper time.

I Tim 4:10
It is for this we labor and strive, because we have fixed our hope on the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of believers.

Titus 2:11
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men.

Heb 2:8
For in subjecting all things to him, He left nothing that is not subject to him. But now we do not yet see all things subjected to him...But we do see Him who has been made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that by the grace of God He might taste death for every one.

I Pet 3:18-20
For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, in order that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit; in which also He went and made proclamation to the spirits in prison, who once were disobedient, when the patience of God kept waiting in the days of Noah...

I Pet 4:6
For the gospel has for this purpose been preached even to those who are dead, that even though they are judged in the flesh as men, they may live in the spirit according to the will of God.

II Pet 3:8,9
But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not willing that any should perish but for all to come to repentance.

I John 2:2
And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.

I John 4:14
And we have beheld and bear witness that the Father has sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.

It is tragic to see one of God's ministers go astray. It would be worse to see others led astray by his false teachings. We will all be held accountable for what we hear and believe. The scripture is available for us all to study and learn for ourselves. In Acts the people of Berea studied this scriptures daily to see if what Paul taught was actually true. We need to do the same and not be so easily swindled by a mom and pop religion that God has not ordained.

Rom 16:17-18 warns us to Mark those who cause divisions and offenses contrary to the doctrine which you have learned, and avoid them.
For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.

What a shame and a sham! Oh, how the powerful & mighty become intoxicated by their status, then deceived by the enemy, then they fall - and fall hard! What is just as bad is that there are a few on this blog who seem to condone and console Pearson for his heiracy! I am a Pentecostal believer who happens to believe in the Biblical doctrine of Eternal Security. This just brings to light the unfortunate truth that John wrote about in I John 2:18-29 " Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the[c] Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour. 19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us.
20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.[d] 21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
22 Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son. 23 Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either; he who acknowledges the Son has the Father also. 24 Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life.
26 These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you. 27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will[e] abide in Him. 28 And now, little children, abide in Him, that when[f] He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming. 29 If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him."
Pearson's departure from the faith and his obvious staunch stubborness and unrepentent state of heart tells me that - tho' he has done much for the kingdom thru works and even being used of God, Carlton Pearson NEVER experienced the inner transformation of the "new birth" or "Damascus road" encounter with Christ. Maybe his mind was changed years ago, but in the depths of his soul, Pearson could not have been born again. This is a prime example of what Jesus warned about in Matthew 7:15-23 "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them. 21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’"
What a sad state to be in! Carlton Pearson serves as an example to all that if only one believes with their MIND, then their mind can be changed thru deceit. If I can talk you into something, then someone who is a bit more "charismatic" or educated can talk you out of it! Carlton has been "talked right out"of the truth, and believed a lie. Now he is spreading this heiresy to all who will lend him an ear, or give him a platform from which to spew this venom forth! What a tragedy... JTB

I just read the comments of the father of 5 who came to Christ 25 years ago, and I just cannot believe that there is someone else on this planet who thinks as I do. I was saved 35 years ago and have always believed that according to the Bible there are
going to be many surprises in Heaven and many "Christians" are going to find out that they are sharing the space with thousands
and millions of people they thought would be in hell. I do believe in a literal hell but according to my Bible it is a place that is being prepared for
satan's demons, and I also believe that they are no doubt walking around amongst us. Remember that "the tares have been sown right along with the wheat." The enemy sowed the tares and according to the Bible they are almost unrecognizable from wheat.
My final analysis of this whole
issue is: If God was in Christ
reconciling the world to Himself,
and the Bible says that is
precisely what He did, then is God big enough in your mind to get the job done or not????
I think He is! I KNOW He is!

Dianne,
Are you saying, then, essentially the same heiresy as Carlton is preaching? Hell is a place where the unbelieving and unrepentent go at the conclusion of their life of denying or rejecting Christ here on earth. You imply that somehow the "tares" will getlumped in with the wheat in the final harvest, without the tares being burned up in the fires of hell. Reread John 3:16 and tell me how anyone can say that there is NOT a choice on an individual's part to be made. If one CHOOSES Christ - accepts Him as Lord, and experiences the "new birth" which Jesus emphatically stated as the hingepin of the believer's salvation a few verses earlier - then and only then is their final destination of HEAVEN a guarantee! No one will "accidentally" stumble thru Heaven's gates, as you & Carlton imply. John 3:16-17 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved." YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE TO BELIEVE IN HIM! And, there is ONLY one way to heaven! John 14:6 " Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." The words in BLACK & WHITE & RED & WHITE are not up for individual interpretation, Dianne, Carlton & other mislead, misguided people! Either you believe and accept ALL of the Word, or none. We don't have the option of "pickin' & choosin'" which parts or issues we want to believe, and still be right! Conform your life and doctrines to the Word - stop trying to peddle heiresy and inclusionism to an eager audience who desperately need to truth of the Gospel, and not some ear-ticklin', watered-down heiritical deception! Stop trying to conform the Word to your personal belief or philosophy! JTB

Dianne,
Are you saying, then, essentially the same heiresy as Carlton is preaching? I question my own interpretation of what I believe God is saying too me much of the time. Pearsons "revelation" has somewhat of a biblical appeal, "that none should perish", but an unbiblical or scriptural reality. Either the bible is true or we are fools, and if the binle is true then his revelation is false. I could go on and on but there and only there (in the bible) can we dissect and discern the facts in a case such as this. And...in the bible there is a hell...with people in it.

Dilemma...do we justifiably hammer on this man...or pray him through this time?

Brad,
We are to pray for Carlton, while preaching the TRUTH at the same time! The Bible is clear, and not vague or ambiguous in Its doctrines, commands, and precepts. If the SAME Holy Spirit is leading, guiding, and revealing to each of us the truths of the scriptures, then there should be NO confusion or conflict on "elementary" doctrinal issues such as HELL and eternal punishment for the wicked; or of HEAVEN and the ONLY WAY (means) of getting there (Jesus). This is so simple, yet we try to analyze or rationalize in our minds, and thus discord, doubt and confusion is sown among us. JTB

I was in Tulsa when Pearson went on his new way of thinking. He even submitted it to those he thought would condone it, and found out that he was incorrect. He was running for office at the time, so many thought it was a political move. The sad thing is that Pearson is so stubborn that he will not admit that he is wrong. People have left, but some remain under his false teachings. How sad that his own teaching is placing souls in jeopardy. I hope that he repents.
The part about his parents is indicitive of what over strictness does. It brings out rebellion. I think that Pearson is rebelling against the notion of hell for any and all things. Going to hell is not about being good enough, but accepting Christ and following Him.
I think Pearson has met a God that is nothing but punitive, now he has a God that allows for anything. He has eliminated the truth. I pray that He finds the God that loves, but requires judgment in rebellion.

I will continue to pray for Brother Carlton as well as his family. I do have a bone to pick with his comments about growing up pentecostal. I too like Carlton grew up in the Church of God in Christ, but I credit it's teachings and strong moral upbringing to my success today. Like Carlton, our families believed in raising their children with strict love, but it kept me from access to drugs, smoking, illicit behavior, etc. To this date, I have no appetite for any of these things and I credit a strong mother and father who knew God and who raised me in a home where all of us knew God also. Brother Pearson made his original fortune from singing gospel songs he learned in the COGIC; he spoke lovingly about Mother Sherman, Bishop Blake and others who paved the way for his success. Almost as much as his turning to inclusionism is the sadness I feel that he now mocks his upbringing. Growing up in a sanctified church, people made fun of us all the time for going to church two and three times a week, speaking in tongues, shouting, rolling on the floor, etc. I am use to these types of comments from those who did not experience the power of God in a sanctified church. But comments like these coming from my own "sanctified family member" area truly sad. To whom much is given, much is required. Come home Brother Carlton, we still love you.

What do you mean will Carlton Pearson Win? Don't you realize when all things come to an end and the truth about heaven and hell is finally revealed that then we will know who wins. But that is the mentality of most people. Most people look at everything as win or lose. If Pearson is wrong, he won't be the only one (will he?) But if people would take the time they will eventually find that it is really not all about Carlton Pearson, but the God he is preaching about. Why do so many people say so many negative things about a man who believes that God is powerful enough to save everybody? I too once believed in the fiery place of everlasting torment. But I started asking some hard questions. Like: If the Bible tells me that God's mercy endures forever, then when he judges me and I go to hell at that moment God's mercy ceases!! There is no way you can dispute that!! Also I was taught (and believe) that God is all knowing!
Question: Why would God create a being (in His own likeness) Knowing that one day that same being would reject Him and allow that person to suffer endless torment? What does Paul mean when he says to Timothy in 1 Tim: 4:12 that Jesus is the Savior of all men "especially of those that believe? What did Jesus really mean when he told his disciples that if he be lifted up that he would draw (greek/drag) ALL men unto himself? What did Paul really mean when he said in Romans 14:11 "Every knee shall bow and every tongue will confess Jesus?"
If this is not true, then why didn't Paul say some knees would bow and only some tongues would confess? And better yet, why did not the writer of the majority of the new testament (Paul) say anything about hell? If he did, where are the specific books, chapters and verses? I think that these are legitimate questions and ones that should be answered if indeed one is convinced that God is loving, merciful, kind, longsuferring, compassionate and the like! The bible tells every believer to study to show themselves approve unto God. How does God show His approval to one who is obedient by studying the
bible? I can only speak for myself here. I believe that God shows His approval by givng each of us a glimpse of who He really is and what He really is all about. This spiritual insight and revelation (when one studies) does not come from man, but comes directly from God! And that is what most saddens me here. Why?
Because I am wholly convinced that the majority of the people who have responded are not responding spiritually. Because they don't study the Bible for themselves. They pride themselves on what they have been taught by other men and not necessarily what God Himself has to say about a matter! Ask the average believer how many times the word "hell" is mentioned in the Bible and where did the word derive from, most won't be able to tell you!! Ask the average christian what did Jonah mean when he said in chapter two,
"And I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the Lord, and he heard me: out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice." I thought he was in the belly of a fish (whale). What did David really mean when he said in Psalm 139:8 "if I make my bed in hell (is there beds in hell) behold, thou art there. Well I can go on and on. My point is most believers don't know what the word "hell" really means, and yet they have this idea that I am christian so therefore I am not going to hell, but if you are not a christian then you are on your way to hell. How smug and insensitive. If they know that hell is such a bad place, why aren't they constantly warning others who they know are not "born again?" I am sure by now those of you who have read so far, see that I am not a believer in Hell. At least not the place of fire, and endless torment! I do however, believe in Jesus. And I do believe that everyone must confess that He is Lord! I just don't believe that that confession is limited to this life and when one dies. I believe that God has the power to show mercy beyond the grave and give all the opportunity to eventually respond to that love and mercy. What is so wrong about that? I choose to believe the bible when it says that with man it is impossible, but with God ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE. Including saving (reconciling) everyone creature that he created. I challenge anyone who believes differently to study church history, get a concordance, bible dictionary, and other study helps and begin to study the scriptures
and find out what it really says about heaven and hell. Finally,
please read 2 Peter 3:9 and pray over it and ask God for the true meaning of it. While doing so keep this in mind.... if God is indeed not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance, then is His will greater than man's? Utimately will God's will be done or will God allow man's will to circumvent His? If God ultimately allows man's will to be done (in the end) then God is ultimately responsible for that. After all, did He not create us with a so called "free will?" God will have the last say and not me, you or Carlton Pearson will be able to prevent that from happening!!

I must address several issues here:
1) God does not send ANYONE to hell. People send themselves to hell by whether or not they accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Jesus declared that he is THE WAY . . .not A WAY or ONE OF THE WAYS. Pearson's doctrine of inclusivism states that Buddha, Krishna, etc. are ALL WAYS to salvation.

2) I have to also state that I believe once an individual is born again, they cannot become "unborn" again. I believe the only way that individual will not make it to heaven is to commit blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, which Jesus declared in Mt. 12:31.

3) Read Revelation 13:4-9 which talks about the Antichrist, the spirit of which we now see at work in Carlton Pearson and many others.

Bottom line: These are the end times, and we are witnessing the beginnings of the apostate church where heretics, homosexuals and lesbians who are woefully misguided and misinformed as well as spiritually deceived are banding together.

Let us pray.

I believe we need to take people like Carlson seriously. We need to pray for exposure in those who teach a different gospel. Certainly Jesus said there would be those who come preaching a different gospel. At the same time we need to remember Martin Luther was a reformation of us being saved by grace and he too went against the grain. I am not for Carlson, I absolutely don't agree with the heretic, however we need to be people taught by God, not just sitting on Sunday's listening to a man. Read for ourselves and test the spirit of what is being preach. We may find ourselves being taken away in false doctrine if we are not alert. He is no one to laugh at, the anti-christ spirit behind these people is very real and has led many astray from the truth. Be alert.

To the "anonymous" writer who posted at 12:21pm:
You evidently haven't studied the "WORDS in red" my pitiful mislead friend... Paul never mentions "hell", as you allude to in your post? Seriously... have you even read the Bible, having said those FOOLISH beliefs in your post? Again, Jesus talked MORE about hell than heaven! Don't take my word for it; take His words for it. When he told the story - not parable, but story - about the rich man and Lazarus, did He not say that the rich man went to hell, and that there was NO EXIT or way for him to get ANY relief from the eternal damnation or his sealed fate? Can you not understand this? Or, did Jesus lie, or just make up this story to scare people into believing on Him? You are deceived, and you spew the same heretical poison that Carlton spouts off! Oh, by the way... read I Corinthians 6:9 to get Paul's "take" on the fate of those who practice sin... I would post many of the scriptures for you, but you STILL would rationalize in your own debased mind that hell isn't "real." You're so lost and misled; you are a tragedy as well! JTB

I have spent 30 years since my start of walking with Jesus hearing people try to untangle this so called mystery. Scriptural references abound that seem to support both camps.

I am NOT a universalist, but neither do I believe that the evangelical eggheads (some pretty arrogant) are ever gonna figure this out. I know to watch out for people that undermine the Gospel and the Lordship of Jesus, and the historicity of His resurrection from the dead (no swoon theory here!)

I like this one scripture that takes the "super-intelligence religionist" job off of our plate. (thank God!)

"He is the Rock, His work is perfect, and all His ways are judgement.
A God of truth, without iniquity, just and right is He."

this shows me that
sometimes the stuff we cannot decipher we just TRUST HIM. is He fair? Absolutely! IS HE compassionate? you bet! is He gonna do it OUR way? Probably not!

I think Pearson was spiritually deceived by accepting a demonic message. The bible could have counteracted that--unless you don't know the bible or don't like what it says and therefore reject it--or don't believe it is the infallible word of God as another comment writer said.

I had just had a friendly chat with a homosexual about homosexuality being wrong. Then I too received a "relevation" that is was ok to be homosexual. Thank God for the bible which allowed me to "test the spirit". Then the Holy Spirit showed me it was the same tactic the enemy used when I was a brand new Christian and did a search under "satan" on the internet out of curiosity.

It is interesting that Pearson's new "revelation" is exactly how I thought before I became a Christian.

One concern I have about Pentacostal/charismatic churches (having been in one for years) is that by placing so much emphasis on being spiritual and exercising gifts, they open themselves up to deceiving spirits. Often, any experience is better than no experience in some of these circles.

I think a better emphasis would be on the fruits of the spirit and building a strong foundation to support gifts of the spirit.

this was presented:
"One concern I have about Pentacostal/charismatic churches (having been in one for years) is that by placing so much emphasis on being spiritual and exercising gifts, they open themselves up to deceiving spirits."

I agree wholeheartedly as a staff member at a charismatic church. One of the safeguards against this is good solid biblically based leadership and discernment by those surrounding someone who migght be getting off-base. There are many good ways to lovingly and effectivly help those who might be a potential doorway for a demonic spirit bringing deception to the people. Places where this is not addressed typically have a greater number of theses problems....

Also I am happy to say that at the church where I serve we have apastor that does not want to be surrounded by people who will just agree with whatever he thinks, he insists of engaging with us, testing each others' thoughts, looking at scripture together, reaching consensus through prayer, love, the Word, etc. You get a pastor surrounded by people that will tell him yeah yeah on everything, troubel is around the corner!

IITimothy 3 Paul says The last days perilous times shall come for men will be lovers of themselves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God. having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof, from such turn away, for of this sort are they which creep into houses and lead captive silly women laden with sins, lead away with divers lusts, ever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of truth. The word in II Timothy 2-15 says study. We can all be caught up in the things of this word if we are weak in the word we must walk in the light of God's word else we can all fall, no one can say he has the power in his own strength to stay away from the very things that word says can destroy us.8 says jannes and jambres withstood moses, so do these also resist the truth men of corrupt minds reprobate concerning the faith. 9 says but they shall proceed no further for folly shall be manifest unto all men as theirs also was, our sins will find us out.13, but evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse deceiving and being deceived.Satan come to destroy the very elect, Jesus came against peter called the spirit that spoke from him satan, he thought he was speaking compassion and concerned for Jesus and spoke against his dieing, unaware that satan was telling him what to say, Jesus rebuked him (satan) Jesus knew who was talking, he also told peter that satan desired to sift him as wheat, whether we be christian or none we all can be flesh if we don't stay in the word guarding or hearts with all deligent. The word says to test the spirits , to see if they be of God.Whom the son sets free is free indeed, we use this scriputre to entertain and change the meaning of the word to benefit those that think that the word of God is hard to live by and so when we do people will come and we feed them what they want to hear so that our pots stay full, the word says in the end there will be a great falling away. I pray that not just Carlton, but all of us who say we are children of the light, stay with the true word,II Timothy 3-16. 2 Peter 1-4 But there were false prophets also among the people even as there shall be false teachers among you who privily shall bring in damnable heresies even denying the Lord that brought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. many shall follow their pernicious ways by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you, whose judgement now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not. for if god spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness to be reserved unto judgement. 9 says the lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgement to be punished. Jude 1-4 For their are certain men crept in unawares who were before of old ordained to condemanation ungodly men turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness and denying the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ 6 and the angels which kept not their first estate but left their own habitation he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgement of the great day. Either we are going to believe the word or we won't.Revelation 22-18 I testify unto every man that heareth the words of prophecy of this book, if any man shall add unto these things God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book and if any man shall take away from the word of the book of this prophecy God shall take away his part out of the book of life and out of the holy city and from the things which are written in this book. I thank God for Jesus thru him we have eternal life, I thank God for the holy spirt who enables me to continue to walk in the light when I want to entertain my flesh. May God help Carlton to return to his first love, Go back to what he first was taught, the word says when you see a brother falling to hold him up, continue to pray for him as well as all who carry the word, to an unsaved world. That Jesus will present us faultless before the presene of God with exceeding joy. Minister. Evanglist. R.K.F.

To Joe Bowling, Well, well, well it seems that your post ads a lot of credence to what I was saying about being smug and insensitive. First of all does the words in red overide the words in black? If so then my bible is definitely not correct, because the words Jesus speaks in the bible I study (not just read)are printed in black!! Then you say that my beliefs are Foolish! Which eludes to the fact that I myself am a Fool.

But did not Jesus himself say in Matthew 5:22 "whosoever shall say thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire?" If that is true and you believe it, then you yourself are in danger of going there. If it really exists!

Thirdly, I am not going to take your word for it, but if it is so important and crucial for me and others to take Jesus' word for it, then why don't you be a good disciple and tell me where are the
verses that can show me that Jesus talked MORE about hell than heaven. Please Joe, show me a comparison. If I am so mislead and you are not, then give me something that will get me on the right track! Why was it so important for you to qualify the account about the rich man and lazarus? You said it is a story and not a parable. Can you help me out and tell me what the word
story means. The last time I looked - Webster's dictionary refers to the word story as a tale (noun), rumor (noun), article (noun), lie (n). Which one of these are you talking about when you compare "story" to a "parable?" You see Joe, we have all been taught that if we live right we will go to heaven, but if we live sinfully then we will go to hell. Here is a legitimate question for you. And hopefully you can honestly answer it without being condescending. What did the rich man do to deserve hell. And what did Lazarus do to deserve Abraham's bosom (not heaven)!!
Why didn't Jesus (from this parable) tell His listener's exactly how to avoid the plight of the rich man and gain the reward like Lazarus did? Jesus himself said that he came to save the lost. Chapter 15 is the beginning of 5 parables that Jesus told. And the first verse says that the listeners were tax collectors and sinners, but he also was speaking to the Pharisees and the scribes, who were the religious people of that day. Again, why at the end of this parable didn't Jesus give a stern warning about the dangers of hell. Let me see if I can help you with that Joe. First of all let me give you a technical definition of a parable followed by a more simple definition: Parable in the Greek is "para-bole" and it means Beside Cast. It is a statement cast beside or parallel to its real spiritual significance. Secondly it is a short and simple tale based on familiar things meant to convey a much deeper and profound moral or spiritual truth. Jesus spoke in parables throughout His whole ministry. But no parable is literal or historical. The second you make a parable literal, it ceases to be a parable. Okay, Joe I just stopped to read 1 Corinthians 6:9 and can you tell me where the word hell is in that verse?? It only says that whosoever does such thing will not inherit the kingdom of God, but know where do I see Paul saying that if you do such things you will go to hell. If the alternative to heaven is hell then why did not Paul say so???
One more thing... you say that I am so lost and misled. Well that may be true. That's why I am so glad my salvation is not dependent upon you. I am glad to put my trust in someone who tells me to "love my enemies, pray for those who despitefully uses me ,go the extra mile etc... I just refuse to believe that the same God who tells me to do that (and much more) to my fellow man will allow any of His creatures to suffer forever. Since I really don't want to be misled I will ask you one more question. If you are so certain about hell, then Joe can you tell me what is the purpose behind such a cruel fate? Thanks for reading this. (I hope)

Look at what's going on in the world today. Is it not signs of the coming of Christ to rapture His people out of here. He Himself said that if He didn't come back soon even the elect will be deceived? Pray for Carlton that the scales fall from his eyes and the spirit of deception leave him in Jesus's Name.

I am an elder in an independent New Testament charismatic church (that's a mouthful!), and I too am tired of the exaltation of spiritual gifts as well as the exaltation of five-fold gifts. I believe that God is definitely dealing with the exaltation of gifts that led to Carlton Pearson's cynicism of the church. But the gospel is not at fault nor is it faulty. Men are faulty and are at fault for exalting anyone including Carlton Pearson. Had he not been riding quite so high, he may have listened to godly and wise counsel when they beseeched him to abandon this "new revelation."

I think some where along the line Carlton's heart was broken by someone he looked up to. Somewhere he felt understood and then felt it was a joke. Broken hearts cause many to go "another direction." I pray for Love to minister to him - Carlton is loved and appreciated by many who know the Love that IS in him. God bless you Carlton.

Mr Anonymous who replied to my post-
It is late, so I'll post again tomorrow afternoon to respond to your statements. I'll have PLENTY of scriptures for your pleasure, to refute your erroneous belief that hell does not exist. And being foolish does NOT make you a fool,by the way... And, for the record;my name is JOEL - not Joe. I look forward to "knocking this one out of the park" since it's such an easy doctrine to prove. See you Saturday, my anonymous friend. Seriously... I wish you well and pray God's favor be upon you and your family. If I sounded condescending, then please forgive me.My passion for the Gospel and the Truth may come across that way. I'm a Marine Corps veteran, and I love a good debate. Sometimes, too much,I reckon.I will NOT apologize for the truth, tho'. God's Word says it,and that settles it. Whether you & I agree, like, or accept it does NOT negate or change it! Semper Fidelis! JTB

Okay Joel, I got your message and appreciate your prayers. I really do. Hopefully I will have the chance tomorrow to respond after I have read the verses that you said you will supply. If not I am certain we will talk soon. By the way, I was in the United States Air Force. Yeah you know the ones who wore the bus uniforms. Talk soon. Until then
best regards and God bless you and yours. In His Name - Paul

I love Biship Pearson and I am greatful for this witness of God's great big love.

I would like to leave this comment for anyone who agrees the false doctrine of inclusion. First of all, God would not have sent Jesus to die a horrible death to "save us" from our sins if everyone eventually ends up in heaven. What a cruel hoax that would be for God to send his only begotten and beloved Son to come to the earth to die for us so we could become the bride of Christ and spend eternity in heaven if we were going to heaven anyway! If the doctrine of inclusion was true, then Jesus would not have had to come and die for our sins. Why not just let everyone into heaven? Because "without the shedding of blood there is no remission for sin." Why did Jesus talk about Hell more than heaven? Why would He even mention Hell? He wasn't talking to the devils (who hell was made for to begin with), He was talking to the Church! He was warning people about hell. What about the rich man and Lazerus? The rich man was in Hell! We are in the last days now and deception is a big problem we need to look out for. I like the scriptures our brother wrote using John 2: 18-19. Please pray for truth. The Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth. God help us all.

My heart grieves over Pastor Pearsons departure from the faith. We all should look to The Saviour to see how we should pray for our brother. For the grace of God, there go i!In past seasons, Parsons ministry encouraged me so! Now this is my and all of our re- sponsibity to pray for deliverance is there anything to hard for our God? We owe him that much!!!!!!!!

Okay Anonymous I will attempt to answer some of your questions. First of all when it comes to salvation you need to understand that it has very little to do with mankind and God. You have heard it said that Jesus was slain before the foundation of the world. If that is true than salvation had to be an agreement between God the Father and God the Son. It had nothing to do with mankind because mankind did not exist! Further, John pointed to Jesus as the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. No where in that verse do I see any conditions. It does not say but only if you confess them! Jesus himself said that "if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. Again I see no conditions in that verse. If salvation requires me to do something, then why didn't Jesus say I will draw only those who accepts me as Saviour, rather than ALL men??? Also many christians declare that one must be born again. Does that mean when one is born again that they are saved?
Why was it that you only see that term used once in the whole bible and it is spoken to only one individual rather than the multitudes? You say that Jesus spoke more about hell than heaven.
Let me ask you an honest question.
Is that something you heard or is it something that you discovered on your own? Either way can you list the scriptures where Jesus spoke on hell and then list the scriptures where Jesus spoke on heaven? I promise I am not trying to put you on the spot, its just that I hear that all the time, and never once has anyone given me bible verses to substantiate that Jesus spoke more on hell than He did about heaven. You mention about the rich man and Lazarus and say that the rich man was in hell.
Is he still in hell right now? If so why would God take him out of hell to judge him (according to Revelation) and then send him back to hell? Just as it does not make sense to you that God would send Jesus to die, knowing that all would make it to heaven anyway, it does not make sense to me that if he is all knowing and he knew from the beginning that most people would reject His Son - why would He allow Jesus to die?? And die for only a few folk. If he is the Savior of the world and yet only a few will actually be saved then Jesus in all reality is a failure.
The scripture gives no indication that Jesus wishes to be or hopes to be or perhaps will be the Saviour of the world. It emphatically lets us know that He
is and has saved everyone. Look at 1 Tim. 4:12 and notice the distinction. In any event I
believe these things to be true.

Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight. Isaiah 5:21

Jesus said, "If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains." John 9:41

We are praying for our beloved brother Pearson and declare that God is exalted and Satan is defeated. God loves him more than he will ever know and is faithful. For we are convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to seperate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39

I am sure that the originater of this blog did not expect such precise biblical and spiritually descerned responces regarding the great love AND mercy of our God. One need not be a scholar, only a seeker. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO SINCERLY SEEK TRUTH FROM ONE'S HEART AND NOT FIND IT. PERIOD. We need not depend on Bishop Pearson, the Pope or our local pastor for our direction toward truth. Seek truth for yourself with honesty and reverence for our great God and you WILL find it. You will also find that TRUTH is very different than what those who follow age old thought patterns of religion and fiery "men of God" have tried to scare you with. Truth equals love. Untruth equals fear. Non-judgement day is at hand.

My dear Paul,
Hey man, it's Joel again. I just got in, and must begin working on a sermon for tomorrow, so I don't have a great deal of time to post. Here is a bit for you to pray and research on. First, Paul DID indeed refer to hell and judgement in II Thess 1:7-10 " and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, 8 in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, 10 when He comes, in that Day, to be glorified in His saints and to be admired among all those who believe,[a] because our testimony among you was believed.
Anyway, NT references to hell/outer darkness/place of punishment/fiery judgement are as follows: Matthew 5:22-20/ Mt 10:27-30/ Mt 8:12, 13:42-50,18:9, 22:13, 23:15, 16:23, 24:51, 25:30// Luke 13:28 (All Jesus' words on hell. Note: I left out verses in Mark, Luke or John where they were repeated of the above). Hebrews 10:26-31//James 3:6//II Peter 2 & 3 (the whole chapters!)//the entire book of Jude!//Rev 20:13-14/

Finally, what "condemnation" was Paul referring to when he wrote Romans 8:1?? Paul, pray about this issue, and let the Spirit reveal to you the tragic truth about sin and its final consequence - HELL, then the eternal lake of fire after the final judgement of Rev 20. I'll catch ya' later. JTB

Personally, I think everyone should stop praying against Carlton Pearson's will, and just stop praying for him. He has the God-given choice to believe, do, and say what he wants. Others have the right to choose to believe him or satan rather than believe God, ie Adam and Eve.

Pearson doesn't believe that he needs to "come back to his senses" no matter what anyone says or prays. He has been "playing church" for so long until he has "played himself."

I say, let the Holy Ghost referee this and we can be sure that "He" will win. No one, absolutely no one can play God, nor "play" God, even though we have seen time after time those who want us to believe that they have heard from God, only to end up dead by their own hands and/or beliefs. There is Waco, Jim Jones, Manson, etc.

I grew up in a staunch Pentecostal church and couldn't wait to get out and could make decisions for myself. It was traumatic to say the least, but, the scripture, God is Love, stuck and I came to understand what the real problem was in myself. It isn't God doing stuff to people, it is people doing stuff to each other in the world, and unfortunately in the church.

If God says that there is a lake of fire for all liars, and a literal hell, it is best to believe an immortal God who doesn't change, rather than mere mortal man who will change his mind on any given day in order to satisfy the lust of the eye, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life. It's the same old conversations and temptations satan tried to use on Jesus; same old stuff he still uses today on intellectual us.

When we set about to intentionally deceive others, we are most assuredly just deceiving ourselves. I observed his antics at his church, and was amazed at how many times he didn't have a message, only a whoop, and a holler. Even Oral Roberts called him on it, and asked him, "Carlton, when do you have time to study the word of God?" If anyone else dared to say anything about it you were accused of having "a hidden agenda."

So, if Carlton Pearson wants to believe that there isn't a literal hell, well, to hell with him! Certainly he can categorize me as one of those mean Christians, but a loving one will tell him the truth. The truth is wake up, grow up, and shut up, but as always, negative attention to some is better than no attention at all.

On thing that struck me as I read through these comments--is I keep hearing people say everyone has a responsiblity to be discerning and knowledgable and not just depend on their pastor, TV figure, etc.

What has struck me is how little some long-term Chrsitians know the bible. Even well educated and self-disciplined Christians.

I am so grateful that I had the notion from the start that I was supposed to read the bible everyday.

believers all over the world should pray for our brother Calton Pearson. let us pray for his restoration and rebuke the enemy of his soul. It is awaken call for us to stand and interceed for our ministers.

Through my years of ministry, I have found one characteristic to be universal to all heresy: pride. In fact, one could easily say that, "The root of all heresy is pride" given the fact that every heretic I am aware of has had illusions of grandure with regard to their new "revelation." Similarly, Carlton Pearson believes he is begining a new movement. Beyond what was reported on Dateline, I have had personal contact with Carlton before with regard to his heresy, and a relative of mine used to work for him so I know a bit more than the surface news. Carlton prides himself on his "new" revelation. He firmly believes he is in the same mold as Oral Roberts with healing, Kenneth E. Hagin with faith, and others with bona fide biblical doctrine/teaching. However, as Matt's article pointed out, Carlton's doctrine is without rhyme or reason--or biblical basis at all.

I agree with Anonymous who said that Carlton Pearson has made his own decision regarding hell, AND the inclusion of all fallen mankind in universal salvation. Regarding prayer for him, regard the following passages:

Hebrews 6:4 For [it is] impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, Hbr 6:5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, Hbr 6:6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put [him] to an open shame.

The only thing we can pray for Carlton is that he was never saved at all (like so many others who "were raised in church" but never made a personal commitment to Christ), and for him to receive salvation thru Jesus Christ.

We can all make comments, about what we thinks, if some of us didn't have praying friends and family members who believe in the power of prayer I can only wonder where would some of us be,So many people can testify how their grandmothers or family member prayed that they would turn their love one around and the holy spirt came and ministerd in someway and got their attention, and they came to Jesus and got saved, the word is always true, salvation is always free, you can't work for it, thru faith and belief in Jesus, can one be saved, we are all subject to falling no matter who we are, Yes we should always keep each other in prayer, Carlton has to come back to Jesus,on his own, but prayer changes things, I know myself if I didn't have Jesus when I was growing up and praying family members for me I would be long gone from this earth. We need to stop judgeing and pray for ourselves as well as Carlton lest we be subject to the same temptation as he is( falsehood), yes pride, lifted up in our own way.Continue to pray for yourself that the Holy Spirit will keep you from falling and to bring Bishop Pearson back to his sense.

Scripture speaks for itself. As far as I am concerned I earnestly covet people's prayers on my behalf. However, those of us in places of delegated authority in the church are charged with "watching for the souls" of others. Carlton Pearson's "new" doctrine IS diabolical and deadly to the church of Jesus Christ. I am not a heretic hunter and actually abhor people who are self-proclaimed "watchdogs", however there is a reality that we must deal with. Carlton has either committed the unpardonable sin (blasphemy against the Holy Ghost, Matthew 12:31) or he was never really saved.
