summer on the deck

XTI | f1.8 | ISO 1600 | Av | 1/1000

It’s photos like these that make me really glad that Flickr stores your photo’s EXIF data; I have NO idea what I did to achieve this photo, but I think it’s the sharpest shot Ive ever taken.

On Saturday morning, when I should have been working *tsk*, Rick and I were chatting online about cameras and how to achieve the sharpest settings with the camera without a tripod. He told me to set my ISO really high, then fudge around with my aperature until the exposure was something hand-hold-able.

It turns out the reason most of my photos arent as brilliantly sharp as I would like is because the shutter speed is too slow, causing a slight blur to happen. By raising up the ISO and widening the aperature Im allowing more light to hit the sensor, which causes a cleaner shot (have I got it right?). Im still not entirely sure why these actions didnt cause the photo to overexpose… chances are really good that I underexposed the shot, but I cant tell from the data (the file reads Exposure Bias 0/2 EV — translation?).

I was hoping to continue playing with the camera on the weekend, but it proceeded to rain for the remainder of my waking hours, and that really isnt that much fun to photograph (at least, not yet anyway!)
