SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- U.S. health officials are urging consumers to avoid raw jalapeno peppers only from Mexico due to concerns about salmonella illness, according to a media report Friday.
Reuters reported that the Food and Drug Administration said jalapeno and serrano peppers from the U.S. aren't connected to the salmonella outbreak that has sickened more than 1,200 people.
The FDA had earlier warned against eating any jalapeno peppers.
Government health investigators had initially focused their salmonella probe on some types of fresh tomatoes, which were then removed from menus across the country. See related story. End of Story
