Super Club is a Tacoma-based ministry of Life Center which provides a connection in the community through visitations and a weekly program on Saturdays. Super Club is a fun, fast-paced program for kids from kindergarten through high school. Every Saturday, approximately 500 children are picked up in buses and brought together for a high energy hour of music, skits, and games. The children are entertained as they learn about wholesome values, good citizenship, and the love of God.
The goal of Super Club is to make each child feel loved and accepted. Every child is unique and can achieve a brighter future. Workers cultivate positive self-esteem in the children by accepting them for who they are, encouraging them to realize their full potential, and showing them God's unconditional love.
Super Club also works with the needs of the children’s families – whether it’s a problem finding affordable clothing, food, finances, job-related, or getting education.
Contact is made through visiting homes in a neighborhood, offering Super Club as a service to families. Zones are created for volunteers to cover on a monthly basis for visitation, as well as for pickup for the Saturday program. By making contact with the families, Super Club representatives have the opportunity to be an advocate for children.
The captain of an area works with team members in an organization called MyStreets for covering visitations. MyStreets' members visit everyone on their street on a regular basis in the name of Super Club. They are sensitive to the whole street and the families. If a family is having serious issues with food or finances, then another visitation is scheduled directly with Super Club management.
In some extreme cases, families may find themselves without a home and on the streets. Super Club volunteers work with local shelters to help kids and their families off the streets and back into more stable living environments.
At 9:00 am, volunteers get together and have breakfast while being briefed on the day. After a time of praise and worship, certain volunteers head to the busses, while other volunteers prepare their areas for the kids’ arrival. Busses go through the neighborhoods with at least three people on board – driver, captain, and runner, usually two runners. A lot of time the runners will call kids beforehand. Then the busses return and drop off the groups into four breakouts: Preschool, Elementary, Teen, and Mothers.
At the breakouts, children and their mothers enjoy various activities, most importantly learning more about God and how they can have a relationship with Him.
The Super Club model is being adopted by other area churches, which allows for a greater impact in Tacoma and other cities.
If you have a heart for your community and would like a way to get to know your neighbors while making a big difference, this is a great way to be involved. Super Club happens because of the volunteers who give a little time each week to make a difference for the kingdom of God. You don't have to be a professional - you just have to love children.
We welcome churches and individuals interested in partnering with us. If your church is interested in becoming a host site, or if you would like to help with visitation, know how to drive a bus, or want to work with children, we have opportunities for you!
Finally, Super Club is completely funded by donations. Please consider giving to this ministry to inner city children and their families. Your donations give opportunities to minister in so many ways.
