Ignore the comment below mine. This little ‘fix’ does indeed add sound back to Windows XP, make sure you download the file containing both the Microsoft UAA Driver and the RealTek sound driver, it’s file size is 31.21MB and version number is 1.87 that’s the file your looking for.

After days and days of investigation I was finally able to make it work!
-uninstall any audio drivers (also kb888111 if you installed it)
-In the “Device Manager” uninstall/remove a “PCI device” marked as unknown (i.e. with a “!”)
-restart
-install kb888111xpsp2.exe (for Microsoft UAA Bus driver)
-restart
-install your audio drivers

This is where you can download the right version kb888111 for your OS.
kb888111_WinXP_SP1.zip
http://www.mediafire.com/?t11rzwwtctm
kb888111_WinXP_SP2.zip

kb888111_Win2k_SP4.zip

Some more precision:
After having removed the unknown PCI device and restarted the computer,
windows will ask you to install automatically the drivers for Microsoft UAA Bus.
Cancel it and install the right kb888111*.exe suited for your OS.
Then reboot and windows will once more ask you to install automatically the drivers for Microsoft UAA Bus.
This time you can let it go. Here you are! I hope this helps!

Thanx TranceVibes !
I had exactly the same problem with my new motherboard that I just bought 1 week ago. I tried to reinstall my drivers so many times with the latest drivers (R1.94).
I have a Gigabyte EP35-DS3 and XP sp2 couldn’t find the integrated sound card of the motherboard. I followed the same procedure as you described ans IT WORKS !!
I just had to download the right update for my audio chipset ALC 889A (kb835221.exe) that you can find on gigabyte’s website : http://www.gigabyte.de/Support/Motherboard/Driver_Model.aspx?ProductID=2675
and the install the latest driver :

I didn’t require, kb835221.exe,
Went to Device Manager -> System Devices -> disabled & uninstalled
Microsoft UAA (Universal Audio Architecture) Bus driver, rebooted, then installed the latest driver from realtek.com.tw (as mentioned in the above comment, and rebooted again, it started working.

I have Aspire 5572 with XP sp2, my internal speakers work great consistently.
But sadly for viewing DVD’s they are too quiet, so want to connect external speakers to the headphone port in the front. Have tried updating realtek audio drivers, seem to be fine. Get port acknowledgment when i insert the jack, just now sound. Very Frustrating
Problem: Headphone port Dead more than Not. This is intermittent error, sometimes no problem: often Dead. After scrubbing the Web found 2 interesting solutions.
1st found a post that said, Put the Computer in a bag, in the Freezer. This sounded absolutely ridiculous. and havn’t not tested it.
2nd solution Works about 25% of the time and is simple. Put the computer into standby, wake it up and Walla, works. Sadly this seems to be working less and less often for me. Leads me to believe this is a hardware error. Anyone who can explain why this may work, and a permanent fix would be my superhero.
Hope the info is helpful

Hello there,
I’m getting kind of upset as this isn’t working for me. Basically when installing the UAA Audio Sound Driver, it comes up with error code 37 (failed to initialize). It’s just not working. I’ve rolled back and forth, reinstalled, tryed uninstalling everything and then reinstalling things in different order but no luck. How do I get the driver to initialize? Is it even as simple as that? Really stuck here guys.

Am also having similar issues with my Aspire 5920 (Vista 32) for nearly a week already (at the time of this post), though at max vol I can just about hear background sounds however not when if comes to people talking for some reason and at the same I’m being told that the audio is fine when its clearly not.
I don’t really want to get a new laptop and was wondering if someone who has encountered this issue before could please give me a step-by-step guide.

Hi guys,
booted my acer aspire 5536 today to find that the sound is not working (realtek high def audio) speakers plugged in do not work either but did before. I have uninstalled and re-installed drivers as well as system restoring my laptop but to no end.#
I would really appreciate help on this as I’m not sure what to expect back from Acers support desk who I emailed also.
Is it worth wiping the whole thing and reloading the original disks? I’ve only had it 3 weeks so there is nothing that I will miss.
Thanks in advance

I am having buzzing noise(high pitch) problem when I connect acer aspire 5920 “audio output” to “rgb audio input” of vizio lcd tv.
I notice this buzzing noise start even though systems is booting up. So it is not the driver problem.
There is no sound problem when I connect this TV to another Dell laptop or No problem when I connect this Acer laptop audio output to speakers.
I don’t understand weather it is a TV problem or Acer BIOS/Firmware problem.
I don’t find any solution on the google.
Please help me.
