How would you describe your dream job in 10 words or less?

To be creative with my skills and gifts in communication, visioneering, and strategy. More importantly: to work for a company that believes in its employees, promotes excellence, and has a great vision and purpose I could get behind.

What was one of the biggest lessons you ever learned from being laid off?

Your best tool in getting a job interview somewhere -- anywhere -- is to rely on your friends to help out. Every single interview I've had in the last six months since getting laid off has been because I knew somebody who knew the right person to get me an "in." Ultimate lesson: Build your network!

What was your first job?

My very first paid job was at a vegetable/produce market. I swept, mopped, and kept the veggies looking good. They paid cash. I loved it.

If you won $50 million dollars tomorrow, what would you do first?

The first thing I'd do is pay off my mortgage, then pay off all my other debts, then hire the best financial advisor I could find to help me invest my money so I could live off the interest only.

What advice do you have for someone looking for their first job out of college?

Be persistent, but be flexible. Your first few jobs after college may or may not have any bearing on the rest of your career. Don't get hung up on salaries or annual income: even though you're a graduate, you still have a lot to learn. Use your jobs like they were an extended college classroom and suck all the wisdom you can from them.... read more
