Here's To New Beginnings

December 10, 2006

New Beginnings are awesome – It's already been a week at my new job and I am having a blast. After more than 7 years at my old job at Strong and then Wells Fargo (acquisition), it's great to be doing something different. I love change, especially if it's the right change for the right reason. I love new challenges and the opportunity to prove yourself all over again and I am getting that in my new position with Artisan Partners. Artisan Partners is an independent, multi-product investment management firm here in town.

I have a lot of great memories from my 7+ years at Strong and then later Wells Fargo, which acquired Strong in January 2005. It was an awesome learning experience and I had the pleasure and privilege of working with an incredible group of people. I miss a lot of people there but it was time for me to move on and I absolutely love my new job. I don't mean this in a pejorative sense but after working for a large company, it's great to work for a small company again where you can have an immediate impact. Large companies view risks differently as they have much larger constituencies and tend to be a little more risk averse than a smaller, entrepreneurial company. So here's to new beginnings, a new year (almost), good health, and world peace. :)

When did you leave? I was looking for someone to walk down for coffee with me and I noticed 5 contractors dog piled up in your cube like they had just taken down an antelope.

Glad to hear you love the new position. I'm a fan of smaller companies as well, and hope I don't end up in a large organization again…

Congratulations, Vinnie. I heard about a week ago from Tom Feller. Sounds like you will lead another bunch out of the wilderness!

Seeing that you want "to finish Graduate School" come on back, it will not take long! I'm going an "Agile Software Development" class this spring and if you were there you could just teach it!

Am in Dallas visiting daugher and family, who just moved here. Will probably have a year-long sabbatical next year and finally finish the $% book.

Keep in touch.

Whoa Vinny - you left Strong/Wells? You were one of the most awesome people I worked with when I was there, so it's nice to see you doing something new and exciting. I didn't even know you were blogging! COOL! We should do coffee sometime (I was on the Web Services Team and you were our go-to guru!)
