In November of 2002, Arlyn Pember, general manager of Gospel Publishing House, and Mike Murphy, manager of the Production Operations Center, received a letter from Prince J.A. Okeiyi, general manager of the Assemblies of God Nigeria Press (NP) in Aba. The letter expressed concern that the outdated NP facilities and equipment would not be able to keep up with its tremendously increasing workload due to the growth of the church and missionary activities within Africa. NP was in desperate need of refurbished or used machines, computers and other printing equipment.
Pember and Murphy set out for Africa on July 19, 2004. Soon after landing in Abuja,Nigeria's capital city, they boarded another flight for Enugu, home of the Nigerian AG headquarters.
The two men were greatly impacted with the dire need they found at NP. They agreed there was no way they could have determined the needs of NP without first seeing the operation. In recent years, the Nigerian church has possibly seen the world's greatest numerical growth. Pember and Murphy saw how the church's growth was taking its toll on the antiquated press equipment and cramped facilities.
