A Letter from Michael & Laura

We accepted the invitation to help our church in the area of Marriage & Family Ministry because we believe that God created the family in the very beginning as a part of his perfect plan. And now, even after thousands of years of sin-laden history, we believe that God has a powerful and important purpose for the family in His mission to redeem His creation.

We want to join God in his work of redemption and see lives changed. Although our family is far from perfect, we enjoy the blessings of God in our family, and we want to share that joy with others.

We believe that marriage was instituted by God as a picture of the intimate, loving relationship He desires with us. Marriage is a model of Christ and the Church. We not only want to protect marriage in our culture, we want to promote strong unions that last a lifetime.

We believe that our best chance to impact our world is with our girls. We believe that your best chance to impact your world is with your family. Parenting is tough. There are so many things we are unsure of, so much we don’t understand. But one thing we do know: when we join together with other couples who share our faith, we have a better shot at building a healthy family.

We also believe that we and too many others like us have spent too much time railing against the culture and too little time healing the hurting people left in its wake. We believe divorce is wrong. But we also believe that God loves those who’ve been divorced and that He can make all things new. It is His love and grace alone can transform our culture with real family values.

This really is the heart of Marriage & Family Ministries: “Believers sharing the joy of healthy families with each other and with their community.” We want to work together to honor God by making our marriages a beautiful picture of His love, by passing on to our children a legacy of faith and by reaching out to those around us with the joy of the Lord that is our strength.

Marriage & Family Ministries is going to be a little different than a lot of other programs in our church. Mainly, because it’s not a program. Sure, we will start some new initiatives, but primarily we want to support all the existing ministries of our church that minister to our families. So, whether it’s High Voltage Kids’ Ministry or Reality or SOLO or WILD, we are looking for ways to increase our effectiveness in family ministry at every level.
