Notes

Notes General

To create a new note, click on "Notes" under the search field, on the left-hand side of the page, or simply search for the word "Notes" in the search field, and click on the "Notes" application link. Next, click on the "Write a New Note" button at the top of the page, on the right-hand side.
When you are writing or editing a note, there will be an option on the right side of the page to "Tag people in this note." Just begin typing one of your friends' names in the box, and then select that person's name to tag them. We will also suggest possible matches based on a quick scan of the text. If you want to tag yourself in the note, simply type your name or "Me."
Would your description of your Chuck Norris Halloween costume make more sense if you included photographic evidence? Facebook gives you the option to include images in your note.
When you are writing or editing a note, you will see an option to "Upload a photo" below the body of the note. Use the "Browse" button to find the image you want from your computer. Once the image is uploaded, you will be given the option to write a caption. The photo will then be assigned an identifier, like "Photo 1". Move this identifier to the place in the text where you would like the image to appear. Next to the photo thumbnail, you will have the option to determine how you want the image aligned on the page (centered, right side of the page, etc.). When you are all done uploading and aligning the photos, don't forget to "Publish" the note or "Save" your edits.
Are people making fun of your spelling? Ending sentences with prepositions again? To edit a note, simply click on the "Edit note" link just below the note's title. You may then modify the note in any way you wish. When you are done with your edits, don't forget to "Save" the changes.
Want to know what your friends are saying about you? You can view all notes in which you've been tagged by selecting the "Notes About Me" option on the top of the Notes page.
From the Notes About Me page, click on the title of the note you don't like. On the right side of the page, under "In this note," you will see your profile photo and name. Simply click "remove tag" under your name. The note will no longer lead to your profile.
If you want to weigh in on the discussion, you can add a comment by clicking on the title of a note and scrolling down to the bottom of the page. When you have written your comments in the box, please make sure to click "Add your comment". In some cases, the person who posted the note may have privacy settings in place that prevent others from making a comment.
The default privacy setting for notes is that everyone on Facebook can see your notes. If you would like to change this go to the "Notes" section of the Privacy page. From the drop-down menu, you can set your general notes privacy. You can also get to this page from your Notes page.

Importing External Blogs

Been blogging since grade school? Don't worry, you don't have to spend hours copying and pasting them into Notes. Facebook allows you to quickly and easily import an external blog from another website.
On the Notes page, select the "Import a blog" link on the right side of the page. Enter the URL (web address) of your blog into the text box, and check the box underneath that states that you agree to our Terms of Use. To complete the process, click on "Save Settings". Once you do this, your past posts will be in notes and any new posts you make will automatically display.
Please place your blog into this validator and resolve all issues with your blog provider.

If you’re still experiencing problems, please submit your report to Facebook here.
Unfortunately some RSS feeds only provide us with the most recent blog posts. If your feed is only giving us recent info, we will not be able to import the old posts. We do not scrape text from external pages; it has to be fed in. If you want, you can always copy and paste the text in as a new note.
Facebook is probably not able to import your blog because of a privacy setting on your account. Blogs written from sources with restricted viewing will not export to Facebook. If you would like to import your blog, you will need to change this privacy setting to something less restrictive.
If you are importing a blog into Facebook, edits or additions to your external blog should update your Facebook notes within three hours. If you are having problems getting your notes to import or update, please tell us more here.

Exporting Friends' Notes

It's basically a web page that can be easily checked by software tools called news aggregators that can notify you when any new content is available from a particular source. For example, if you subscribe to the feed of your friends' Notes, you can easily find out when one of your friends writes a new Note. A news aggregator is the best way to keep track of all the feeds you care about. Our current favorite is Bloglines; it is web-based and so you don't have to install anything on your computer. If you follow the link to a feed in most web browsers, you'll find that you can easily subscribe to that feed with just one or two clicks, and then whenever your friends' post new Notes, Bloglines will let you know.
If you have no idea what to pick, choose the Atom feed. It contains a little bit more information, like links to the public profiles of the authors of Notes. Both Atom and RSS are XML formats for syndication, and the differences between them don't add up to much. If you are really interested in the details, you can check out the specs for each at these websites: Atom 1.0 and RSS 2.0.
No. Each person that can see your Notes on Facebook is given a different RSS or Atom feed URL (web address) that is unique for them. Only the Notes that they are allowed to see will be syndicated via that URL. If you change your privacy settings or friend links, then all the feeds will be appropriately updated.
Atom and RSS feeds from Facebook include the Bloglines Feed Access Control extension , and we set the access parameter to "deny" for all of our feeds. We also indicate in our robots.txt that feeds should not be visited or indexed by bots. The major aggregators and search engines (Bloglines, Technorati, Google, Yahoo!) all appear to respect these directives. If you are very concerned about the possibility of someone seeing your Notes that you don't want him or her to see, we've added a privacy option that you can set on your Notes privacy page which will prevent any of your Notes from being syndicated in any RSS or Atom feed.
