Global

Information

Basic Info

Description:
Apparently places in Cambridge like the Science Park will be inside the Congestion Charge Zone.

They are looking at charging £3/£5 per Day Monday to Friday. This includes people living inside the Congetsion Charge Zone when they leave and when they try to go back home

Recent News

The Congestion charge is part of a £500m scheme to reduce congestion by 10%, or to the same level of school holidays. What they are basically saying is that if all the mummies stopped doing school runs and made the kids walk, bike or bus to school (like I did) then there would be no need for a congestion charge

Other proposed Congestion Charge sites and the outcome

Norwich:
Looked into the idea of a congestion charge and instead opted to JUST improve public transport with better use of busses and waterways and the possible intorduction of a tram system

Edinburgh:
Are now looking at other ways to reduce congestion after a public referendum showed that 75% were against a congestion charge.

Well its seems that the newly appointed Coun Shona Johnstone is not in favour of a public refernudum about the Congestion Charge. I wonder why that is. I once again ask everyone that hasn't signed the on-line petition to do so and also to get all your friends to as well. I am happy to appoint officers who can spread the word. I am going to forward the link to this to the Cambridge Evening News so we can lend them our backing on getting the public voice heard

It has long been know that there is an ulterior motive behind any decision that the councillors make. The road planning requires common sense, unfortunately, the councillors do not have one more brain cell between them.

Congestion is caused by their road planning. Closing arterial routes through the city with rising bollards, introducing traffic lights and contorlled crossings which have a unnecessarily long red, incorrect phasing, bus lanes that cause more traffic etc etc. I can go on and on...I can probably come up with 10 simple improvements arount the city that can clear up a significant amount of traffic at congestion points.

Before any improvements are made with roads, consultations (and listened to) should be made with people who understand and use the roads every day.

Cambridgeshire County Council did announce that they are "going back to the drawing board". Isn't there an election next year??? I think this is obviously an underhanded political decision. If the Conservative party are re-elected in Cambridgeshire it will be back to business as usual, screwing the electors.

I heard on the news that the charge is not going ahead now. Is this true?

Please don't join the Stop Hanley Grange group (we all got an invite from here recently), they are twisting and censoring posts there, e.g. this one:

My previous post was not aggressive in any way - so let me restate it here. I have contacted the highways agency because the signs that you have carpet bombed the surroundings with have been illegally placed (they confirmed this). You asked me for evidence that you need permission to place these signs, and I provided it: http://www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/transport/managing/signs/unauthorised+signs+policy.htm

I think any reasonable person will see that the real reason you deleted my post is because you do not want people to know that the campaign does not go through the proper permissions procedures. Anyway it doesn't matter, the issue is being formally investigated now and they said that they have not given permission for any signage, so soon the courts will resolve the issue.

... please join the Go Hanley Grange group!
