Ellen In The District

A Message from Ellen

Dear Friends and Supporters,

"Thank you"  just doesn't seem
adequate -- you made it happen,
and I am grateful beyond words.
I am extremely appreciative of the
many volunteers and supporters
who helped me get reelected by
knocking on thousands of doors, putting bumper magnets on your cars and signs in your yards, hosting house parties, and stuffing envelopes. Because
of all of your work, I have the unique honor of once again representing
District 134.

When my late husband Lyon and I chose Texas as our home in 1977, we could have moved anywhere in the world. But Texas is the place we wanted to be because of the promise and opportunity of this great state.  We chose Houston because deals were made with a handshake, and whether you had been in this amazing city for three generations or three days, people accepted you if you gave your word, worked hard, and were honest.

As state representative, I give you my word that I will continue to work hard to help make Texas the great state we know it can be.  Our potential is boundless. However, so long as we are first among the 50 states in the number of executions and the uninsured, and Houston is second in the nation with the poorest air quality, there is more to do.  And until we can recite the pledge of allegiance to the flag of this country and truly mean "liberty and justice for all" -- not just for some but for all, regardless of color, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation -- we have not lived up to the promise of this state or this country. Yes, there is more to do.

My commitment to you is to represent this district to the legislature and to continue to listen, learn, and work with all of my colleagues to make Texas a shining example of what can happen when we put partisan politics aside and work together for all Texans

Thank you again for the confidence and trust you have placed in me.
