1 John 2:24-25 - Stay with what you heard from the beginning, the original message. Let it sink into your life. If what you heard from the beginning lives deeply in you, you will live deeply in both Son and Father. This is exactly what Christ promised: eternal life, real life!

In the passage above, the author tries stressing the need to stay strong in our walk with Christ. Many Christians start off on fire and wanting to serve God with everything. However as time passes, that passion begins to wane and they begin backtracking on the things they promised they would do.

That’s why the message is so strong here to remember what it was like originally. Remember how you felt about Jesus when you first believed. Remember the commitments you made. Remember the faith you had.

See, life has its way of sucking the passion out of a Christian. People around you will tell you that selling out to Jesus is not practical. The stresses of life will pile up and make it difficult to still have the faith you originally had that God has everything in control if you just trust him. And if you do not watch it, you will lose that desire you had for Jesus and become just another statistic of a Christian who failed.

Don’t let that be you. Don’t walk away from your faith. Stay strong by reminding yourself each day of all the reasons why you believe. Remember what it was like in the beginning – remember when you were saved, remember when God delivered you, remember when Christ became real to you, remember when God rescued you from an impossible situation. The key to staying strong for the long haul is to remember that original passion you had and to do whatever it takes to keep it going each day.
