My Song

Psalms 33:3 begins by saying to sing God a new song. Why the reference to new? Because we serve a creative God. The God who created the heavens and the earth. If there is anyone who knows about being new, it is God. That's why we need to be careful to avoid the common trap of just sitting back and giving God someone else's song.
Let me say that this "song" is not referring only to music. It represents the gifts, talents and opportunities God has given us. Why, if you have the ability to write sermons, should you use someone else's? He wants to speak a fresh word through you. Why, if God has shown you to go in the business world, would you ever go into the ministry and follow after someone else's dream? He wants to use you to be a light in that industry.
Nothing good ever comes with us offering God someone else's song. He has blessed us with everything we need to offer our own unique offering to him. Something no one else can and even should offer because they too have their own gifts. So stop being in such a hurry to be like everyone else and use what God has given you to make a new song that will make him smile with pride and bless his heart.
