From the Pastor
We celebrate 15 years as Eden Assembly of God today—quite a milestone. I thank God for His faithfulness over this time. Today I want to honour Jeremy and Mary-Rose. They were there for the first service (not that they had any choice! but now they do) and they are still here and faithful to the vision.
At the beginning God made some promises to us. We have yet to some fulfilled. As with Joseph, he had the dream and went through a whole lot in order to see it fulfilled. God is not a man that He should lie and so I hold on to those promises and wait for their fulfilment.
I want to thank Joanne. She has stood by me all this time. When we began there were sacrifices in leaving a large Church and a salary. God amazingly supplied over that time providing us a 5 bedroom house with a view of the sea for $150 a week.
The next ‘oldest’ member is Zeryn. She came in response to our first door-knocking and gave her life to the Lord in the Sunday school. She is still here and she brought along dad and mum—Rob and Diane— as well.
I want to thank my current elders. They are a great team of men and I am grateful to have them. Brian is the longest serving having come to do the electrical work for our tent crusade when the Church was just 1 year old. He joined us not too long after that and has been a great support. Warwick joined us at the tent crusade and has served the last 14 years faithfully. Thank you one and all.
MALE BOX
Do you know what a ‘margin’ is? It’s space… the space before the red line in your old school exercise book… the space between two events… You’ve heard of ‘margin of error’, meaning an ‘small allowance’ for something wrong. So what sort of margin do you have between yourself and your limit? Margin is something you have in reserve for unanticipated situations.
If ”God gives to His beloved, sleep..." (Ps. 127:2) why do we often feel worn out? Is it the pressure of more commitments, more media, information, and technology, and finally, never-ending choices? Saturday’s Herald would have contained more information than a typical person in the 16th century would encounter in a lifetime.
With continual potential for involvement, we need to be a good sorter—you know, the old ‘Keep’ and “Throwaway’ piles. But that’s not only: ‘Do I go to this meeting or don’t I?’, but also ‘Do I keep remembering what that guy did to me 20 years ago, or do I finally give it to God?’ Does it matter? Your answer provides your margin. Yes, you’ll be fine if nothing unusual happens, but neither God nor ‘Life’ have ever guaranteed unruffled waters. “God sends rain on the just and the unjust.”
What wisdom does God have on this subject?
“If you sow to your human wants,
then you’ll reap what humanity can give you,
but if you sow to your spirit which is towards God,
you’ll reap eternal rewards (now and later).”
So when you are weighing up whether to do this or that, make sure God governs your assessment, so that as far as you can, you allow margins, and He is also supernaturally devising and adding blessing to your margin, in health and wellbeing.
Prophecy to Eden AOG: 28 April 1996
“Cast your mind back to the beginning and to where you have come from. Look and see the work I have done in your midst today and the place that I have brought you from; the change that I have wrought in your lives; the increase that I have brought. And indeed, remember that which I have done and focus your mind on that which I am about to do. Yea, I have been faithful in times past and will I not be with you for what I am about to do? And I do have plans for you. I have great plans for you. I have plans for you individually and as a congregation. I am not a man that I should lie, but I am a God who is Truthful and Faithful to His Word, and that which I have promised, I will bring to pass. And so, if you love Me, keep My commandments; walk in My ways; walk humbly before the Lord your God and I will exalt you and lift you up, and I will cause you to be a light in this place. But continue to seek My face. Continue to pray. Continue to worship Me and put Me first in your lives and indeed you will see My blessing. But do not be distracted by the blessing. Keep your mind focused on the purpose that I have for you.”
