Natalie Imbruglia Is Fur-Free In New Ad For PETA!
Filed under: animals, campaigns, fashion — parrish @ 12:52 pm
True story: first date, super-cute girl, delicious Mexican food and/or margaritas, decent conversation. Walking back to the subway we pass a woman in an atrocious fur coat. I roll my eyes and make some comment to said first date about how disgusting that is. She says — and I quote here — “Really, I think fur is really sexy. I have two fur coats at home.†Needless to say there was no second date!
Obviously that first date was NOT with Natalie Imbruglia or that convo would have never happened. Like so many other stars, Natalie is proving that she gives a damn by posing for PETA’s new fur-free ad.
Nat says: “There is no kind way to rip the skin off animals’ backs. In the wild, animals are caught in snares and steel-jaw traps that slam down on their limbs—they often cut down to the bone and mutilate animals’ legs and paws. Anyone who wears any fur shares the blame for the torture and gruesome deaths of millions of animals each year.” Go Natalie!
While I don’t agree with spray-painting or screaming at fur-wearing so-and-so’s (I’m a peaceful activist, yo), I do show my support for the fur-free lifestyle by sporting the HSUS’s NO FUR pin all winter long. In fact, I always carry three or four extras in my pocket so that when somebody compliments me on my swag (which they do like once a week) I can share my pride!
So a big shimmy and shake to Natalie Imbruglia for leading by example and proving that cruelty is never, ever fashionable!

Madonna Asks Fans To Get Involved Building School In Malwai
Filed under: campaigns, web — parrish @ 12:28 pm
Shortly after Madonna penned that list of crazy demands for her ex-husband, she’s asking her fans to get involved in a way that’s not so crazy.
M-dog wants your help to build a girls school in Malawi and has recorded a short video message on her website all about it. In the video, Madonna says: “There are very few girls in Africa in general who are encouraged or allowed to go to secondary schools so, after spending a lot of time there, I realized that one of the ways I could help was to build a girls school.
“I would really be grateful if you would get involved and help me in any way you can with donations, spreading the word, visiting my website, reading about the progress we’ve made so far. Please visit our website. I would appreciate any help you could give us.”
We love the fact that Madonna is asking people to get involved in making the world a better place and think that even though she’s a little nutsy, sometimes a little nutsy ain’t such a bad thing! To watch the video for yourself, visit Madonna.com!

Stars Design Stars In Rockefeller Center For Children’s Charity
Filed under: campaigns, donations, events — parrish @ 12:39 pm
The air’s a bit chillier and the cider is a bit…mullier (?) and that can only mean one thing: THE HOLIDAYS ARE HERE!
Here in New York the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center is a pretty big tradition and we’re excited to hear that this year they’re decking the halls with a charity initiative that’s sure to inspire goodwill in everyone!
Stars like Fergie ,Jennifer Garner, Ellen DeGeneres, Kristin Chenoweth, Forest and Keisha Whitaker and more have designed Swarovski stars for Rockefeller Center that will be auctioned off to benefit Clothes Off Our Back – a non-profit organization that contributes to children’s charities. On top of all of that awesomeness, Swarovski is donating $250,000 from the sales of its Annual Edition holiday ornament to the charity.
“I’m happy being a part of this Swarovski program as celebrities and designers come together offering their talents to benefit the lives of children in positive ways,” said Fergie. “Swarovski’s partnership with Clothes Off Our Back brings cheer to children across the globe.”
The famous stars will be auctioned from now until December 10th, so make sure you stop by ClothesOffOurBack.org and bid, bid, bid! Happy Holidays!

George Clooney Joins List of Outraged Citizens Against Prop 8
Filed under: campaigns — sara @ 11:26 am
Ecorazzi has been keeping you up to speed on Proposition 8, it’s outrageous passing, and the stars who have something to say about it. Drew Barrymore and Ellen Degeneres were recently quoted discussing the heinous proposition. Now George Clooney is joining in the long line of People Against Prop 8. Here’s what he had to say:
“At some point in our lifetime, gay marriage won’t be an issue, and everyone who stood against this civil right will look as outdated as George Wallace standing on the school steps keeping James Hood from entering the University of Alabama because he was black.”
Other famous people against Prop 8 include Melissa Etheridge, Harvey Fierstein, and James Franco.
Harland Williams is also apparently against Prop 8, as he recently revealed that he voted for the Jolly Green Giant, whom he believes is gay. Check out the video here!

Nigel Barker Holding NYC Benefit Screening Of ‘A Sealed Fate’ For HSUS
Filed under: animals, campaigns, events, events: nyc, film-tv, movies — parrish @ 3:50 pm
Just a few days ago Ecorazzi told you that Nigel Barker was working to end the brutal slaughtering of seals in Canada with the Humane Society of the United States and slowly becoming America’s Next Top Activist (which actually sounds like a really good show…have your people call my people).
If that story caught your interest, you might be elated to hear that Nigel will be holding a benefit screening of his documentary film A Sealed Fate in support of The Humane Society of the United States on the Upper East Side at the AMC Loews Theater (3rd Ave btwn E.71st and 72nd) on Tuesday, November 18th, 2008.
Not only will you get to watch what I’m sure will be a touching film, but Nigel will lead a post-performance discussion and Q&A session with campaigners from The Humane Society of the United States Fur-Free Campaign and Humane Society International Protect Seals Campaign to discuss ways that we can help end Canada’s cruel seal hunt.
You really have no excuse not to be there since tickets are JUST $25 EACH! Seating will begin at 6pm for a 7pm go, and while a limited number of tickets may be available at the theater, it’s best to get your advanced online tickets.
For more info, visit the Humane Society’s website! Yo people, the seals need YOUR HELP!

Steven Tyler, Kiss and Dee Snider Help VH1 Rock Autism!
Filed under: campaigns, contests, donations, events, music — sara @ 12:33 pm
You may have seen the VH1 Rock Autism campaign PSAs on TV. An old school aficionado myself, I was pretty stoked to see Steven Tyler, KISS, Dee Snider (of Twisted Sister), and several other rockers who are older than my father yet still kicking ass taking on this cause! If you haven’t caught it yet, you can see their PSA, “Rock Autism,” here.
Tomorrow Rock Autism is having a Celebrity Bowl-Off at Lucky Strike Lanes in Hollywood, from 7 to 10 PM, with benefits going to three different autism charities–Act Today, the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism, and the HollyRod Foundation. It will be hosted by Dave Navarro and Holly Robinson-Peete, and rocker bowlers will include Meat Loaf, Slash, and members of Anthrax, Great White, Ratt, Warrant, Candlebox, Lit, Cinderella, and L.A. Guns.
This is definitely something I would have sold a body part to attend when I was a teenager.
There will also be a silent auction of rock memorabilia, including signed guitars from Linkin Park and Tom Petty. Tickets are $150 and all go toward fighting autism. To get yours, visit Vh1ClassicBowloff.com

Prince Charles Wants Japan To Build A Low-Carbon Society
Filed under: campaigns, green and famous, politics — parrish @ 2:49 pm

Say what you want about Prince Charles, but that is one environmentally-aware dude! In the past, Ecorazzi has covered many of Charles’ earth-friendly deeds, including his resistance to genetically modified food and his Aston Martin DB6 converted eco-car. Now, the Prince is reaching out to Japan for concerted efforts to build a low-carbon society to combat global warming.
“We must not abandon the drive towards a low-carbon economy,” the prince of Wales said in a speech marking the 150th anniversary of bilateral relations between Japan and Britain. He continued by calling climate change “the biggest challenge our planet has ever seen.”
While it’s obvious the world is currently going through a financial crisis, Charles thinks that we must stay focused on our commitment to the environment. “While we hope and pray that the underlying strengths of the global economy will enable it to bounce back, the effects of climate change will be far from temporary and will, indeed, be irreversible,” he said.
To achieve the goal, the Prince urged technological innovation, including energy-efficient technologies and conservation efforts, such as forest management.
We totally, one-hundred percent support Charles as he spreads the word about the dangers of global warming. Hopefully, with the election of our new president, America will soon become an even larger force in the environmental revolution our world is slowly embracing!

Drew Barrymore Declares Proposition 8 “So Wrongâ€
Filed under: campaigns, events, politics — parrish @ 2:42 pm
A few days ago we created a healthy dose of drama here on the Razz by spotlighting Samantha Ronson’s thoughts on Proposition 8 — an initiative to ban gay marriage in the state of California. Earlier this week, Drew Barrymore joined thousands of protestors who marched from Sunset Junction through the heart of Hollywood protesting the Proposition.
Before the march, Barrymore took a moment to speak to the crowd about her thoughts on Prop 8. She said: “People who I love are being affected by this — people who have defined who I am. This can not happen. We have to change this. This is so wrong. With all my heart I could not feel more passionate about this.â€
Check out the video below to hear all of Drew’s thoughts!
