The Internal Revenue Service and the Treasury Department have issued new regulations that will streamline the approval process for organizations seeking tax-exempt status as publicly supported charities.

In 1954, the U.S. Congress amended (without debate or analysis) Internal Revenue Code §501(c) (3) to restrict the speech of non-profit tax exempt entities, including churches.

On October 3, the House passed the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, otherwise known as the “Bailout Bill,†by a vote of 263 to 171.
