New Private Aircraft Requirements

Cessna private business jetNovember 17, 2008 - The U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced additional measures to strengthen private aircraft security by requiring more detailed information about arriving and departing private aircraft and persons onboard within a timeframe necessary for the Department to assess the risks that certain flights may pose to national security.

"We're placing considerable emphasis on raising security in the general aviation sector," said Secretary Michael Chertoff. "By getting basic electronic information in advance, like we do with commercial aircraft, we are able to substantially reduce a vulnerability." Read more

FEMA Provides More than 1,000 Mobile Homes

November 15, 2008 (Austin, Texas) – FEMA reports that more than 1,000 manufactured homes are now occupied throughout disaster-affected areas. An additional 400 mobile homes are in the installation process. More at FEMA.gov

Stronger Security, Reduced Risk for Rail Systems

November 13, 2008 - The Department announced regulations that will strengthen the security of the nation's freight and passenger rail systems and reduce the risk associated with transporting security-sensitive materials. The Rail Security final rule will require rail carriers to designate rail security coordinators and report significant security concerns to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
