Dell and Gateway both launched new Core i7-based systems today, coinciding with Intel's launch of its new microarchitecture. Dell brings two systems to the game, with the Studio XPS for content creation professionals and the XPS 730x for gamers with some money to spend. Gateway goes directly after the budget gamer market with the FX6800-01, a capable system at an affordable price.

Alienware has always had a reputation for catering to the enthusiast end of the PC market. They try to differentiate themselves from other computer manufacturers by offering high-end components and unique aesthetics -- when you buy an Alienware desktop, you know it's an Alienware desktop. With futuristic case designs, extravagant lighting systems and the omnipresent alien head logo, its hard to mistake it for anything else. Ranging in starting price from $399 to $863, these computers are aimed at commercial desktop installations. The FX160 is Dell's first foray into the thin client segment, aimed at taking advantage of the recent uptick in virtualization technologies.

Whether youre talking about a full-sized ATX desktop case, a minitower desktop, or even a small Home Theater PC (HTPC) youll find at least one 5.25 bay in every desktop case on the market. While Apple's event today was heavily focused on the notebook side of their product line, they did take the wraps off a new display. The 24" Apple Cinema Display sits neatly between the 23" and 30" models. Offering an LED backlighting system for the first time, the new Apple display brings a number of updates to the line, though unfortunately it looks as if Apple is intending this display for use with notebooks only at this point in time
