Acts 29: A Clarification

Scott Thomas, who I had the pleasure of both meeting and conversing with in Orlando at the NNCC and at Universal Studios, recently posted a great article on Acts 29’s site about what the network is not. Usually, Scott (director of A29) is busy making sure that the network is working towards what it is: a Gospel-preaching, Christ-centered church planting network. But because of recent accusations towards the network from a various amount of sources, he has had to clear up what they are not. Read the article here: Seven Misrepresentations of Acts29

Our Values: The Gospel

The Gospel

This is why we exist, and what we will cling to. The Gospel will pervade every aspect of the church, from structure to message. Everything we do will be compared with the Gospel, and then evaluated in its light.

What will it look like if the value is expressed?

Every time teaching is given within the church body, the Gospel shall be articulated and expounded upon. Not only will non-Christians come to rely on the Gospel for salvation, but Christians will also come to realize that without the Cross and Resurrection of Christ, nothing is possible. If anything that we do as a community contradicts the Gospel of Christ, it will be dismantled immediately. Redemption will be a “family traitâ€, with the community seeing lives changed as we live out the Gospel in the central part of Greenville.

Our Purpose

A lot of churches have five purposes, seven purposes, three purposes, etc. We have one purpose:

We exist for one purpose: to glorify, exalt, and otherwise make famous the name, person, and Kingdom of Jesus Christ.

Our First Roadblock

I knew it had to come soon: our first roadblock. Things have been coming together so smoothly here in Greenville, that it was just a matter of time that we approach our first hurdle, and the first is this: denominational funding from the Assemblies of God. They aren’t “ready to commit” yet to a church plant in Greenville. Granted, I don’t half blame them. No one has planted an AG church in Eastern NC for quite some time, especially one with a style necessary for Uptown Greenville. Nor one led by a 22-year old kid. I don’t really blame them. But now we have to rewind, see where we are, and then jump over this hurdle and keep truckin’.

Our Mission

Our mission is to root Christ-followers and Christ-explorers in the Word of God, ripen them to maturity in the Gospel and Kingdom of Jesus Christ, and then reach out to unbelievers in order to redeem the community and its culture.
