A shout-out for French baroque
11/15/2008 08:01 PM MST - Move over, Vivaldi. Step aside, Bach. The French also knew a thing or two about baroque music.

"Kind of Blue" box set's goodies don't add a lot
11/14/2008 11:12 PM MST - Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue" is the best-selling classic jazz (jazz, I say, not Kenny G) album ever, just surpassing the 4 million sales mark this year.

Celine Dion's Pepsi Center show postponed
11/14/2008 04:46 PM MST - Celine Dion's date at the Pepsi Center on Wednesday has been rescheduled for a couple months because the singer is recuperating from a recurrent naso-pharyngeal infection.

Colorado-grown band Chairlift rides iPod buzz
11/14/2008 11:22 PM MST - Seen the new iPod Nano TV ad? That snappy song accompanying the colorful images is "Bruises" by Chairlift, a Brooklyn band that formed a few years ago in the shadows of the Flatirons in Boulder. The buzzy song is a natural fit for Apple's iconic commercials with its simple beat and hyper-melodic vocals.

Music marketing's new wave
11/14/2008 11:49 PM MST - Good music travels fast — and not only because of the omnipresence and 24-hour availability of the Internet.

Is Taylor Swift, the young country star, truly fearless? That may be a bit of an overstatement, but the singer-songwriter is a bona fide talent.

Some think of Andrea Bocelli as the poster child of Pop Opera Light.

Calculated panderer or mirror to society? Toby Keith doesn't answer on his latest, but he does take a more assertive songwriting role.

Dizzee Rascal is easily the U.K.'s most popular rap export. Coming up in East London under the wings of the growing U.K. Grime scene, Rascal put out his first album, "Boy in da Corner," in 2003 when he was still a teenager and quickly rose to the top of the charts.

Laurie Scavo, Special to The Denver Post
The pastoral image of a meadow implies a tranquil, sprawling vista that appeals to Erin Roberts, who has experienced her share of random tumult in recent years.

It's a remarkable time to be following Colorado music.

New York pianist Jason Lindner is the figurehead of a new movement in jazz that breaks from any established school or style.

Q & A with John Wenzel: Singer-songwriter Barton Carroll discusses his mountain-music roots and dark sense of humor.

Jim Carr, The Denver Post
That's the major issue that 4,000 artists and administrators will take on when they gather in Denver for the National Performing Arts Convention, which runs from Tuesday through Saturday at the Colorado Convention Center.

Pop music: Call them brave or stupid, but artists touring through Colorado during these wintry months are bold at the very least. Most of these acts are making it happen in passenger vans, putting their faith in front-wheel drive and the weight of five dudes and their equipment.

Classical Music: The classical music world has begun to uncover often forgotten composers and musicians whose careers were ruined during the Nazi regime.

Dance: From mixed repertory programs to visits from international touring troupes, here are just a few worthy dance events taking place in the coming months.
