It's Over

Not much to say here. Other than the fact that this is a huge huge huge deal. Article speaks for itself.
In an interview with Der Spiegel released on Saturday, Maliki said he wanted U.S. troops to withdraw from Iraq as soon as possible.
"U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama talks about 16 months. That, we think, would be the right timeframe for a withdrawal, with the possibility of slight changes"
And
Asked if he supported Obama's ideas more than those of John McCain, Republican presidential hopeful, Maliki said he did not want to recommend who people should vote for.
"Whoever is thinking about the shorter term is closer to reality. Artificially extending the stay of U.S. troops would cause problems."
And
"The Americans have found it difficult to agree on a concrete timetable for the exit because it seems like an admission of defeat to them. But it isn't," Maliki told Der Spiegel.
Is there anything left to say?

Yes, Except Maliki now claims he was mistranslated! And ain't endorsing Obama...
Awwww..das is aber schade! Which is German for 'damn..tough luck, bucko!'
This is the second time in about a week Maliki has been misquoted by the dinosaur media on this subject...what a cowinkydink, eh?
Don't get me wrong. Maliki is just playing the bazaari, weighing the price the Bush Administration is willing to offer him versus the Iranians, who are telling him that Obama is going to be elected, the Americans are going to retreat in a heart beat and they will still be there, right next door.
Both sides have now likely let him know that he can be friends with one or the other, not both.
Maliki may very well go with his pals in Iran, but he make wake up to find that Iran is a much harsher master, based on how they've conducted themselves in Lebanon. Kinda like dealing with the mafia.
