First Female Speaker
In January, Nancy Pelosi became the first woman to be sworn in as Speaker of the House -- a Constitutional office placing her third in line to the Presidency. As the first-ever woman to hold the post, Speaker Pelosi has truly broken barriers and provided an inspiring lesson to us all:

Speaker Pelosi:
"Women want what men want: an equal opportunity to succeed, a safe and prosperous America, good paying jobs, better access to health care, and the best possible education for our children. Women want the freedom to make the most of our lives and our own choices, so we too can shape the future of our nation...
As we celebrate the achievements of women throughout history, we are inspired by the words of Eleanor Roosevelt: 'It's up to the women!' Let us rededicate ourselves to making progress of our own."
Women LEAD Program
Just over a decade ago only 30 Democratic women served in the House of Representatives. By 2005 that number had grown to 43. Today 52 Democratic women serve in the House and Speaker Nancy Pelosi presides as the highest ranking woman official in our nations history.
