Walking The Bases Loaded

Kenny Rogers pitched 6 innings and allowed 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 4. He also walked 4, three of which were in the 3rd inning which loaded the bases. He was able to get out of trouble by getting Robinson Cano and Johnny Damon to fly out to left field.

The bullpen did fairly well in relief with the exception of Danny Bautista who accomplished the same feat as Rogers by walking the bases loaded in the 8th inning. He then added insult by hitting Derek Jeter to force in a run. Bautista did all of this with his jersey untucked. It took Clay Rapada coming into the game to induce Bobby Abreu to hit a ground ball to third and allow Carlos Guillen to tag Johnny Damon to end the inning.

The Tigers were able to win this game 6-4 despite Todd Jones giving up 2 runs in the 9th, but this game could have gotten away. Fortunately they held on and were able to celebrate with the high fives and shoulder bumping we have seen with Tiger victories this season.

Ahh, Jones tries and fails again to give the game away.

I don’t give a rats behind about his stats. We need a legitimate, lights out closer.

I just re-watched the game. I am getting sick of the Rod and Mario heaping praise on “old Jonesey”.

I think it was Rod who said “Old Jonesey nails it down again”. That didnt look like a “nail down” to me. Jones is good for coming in and cutting it close and letting runs score, cutting it close and no runs score, occasionally getting a clean save, either way, I am always on the edge of my seat when he pitches.
