The Nifty Thing About Tied Ends

This morning as Gracie and I were in the CB Chat Room, joined by a new friend, graceabounds (g2 to us), we discussed a verse of Scripture that I knew God had bonked me with the day before.

Colossians 3:12:

Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;

As I read this, I was drawn to the words "bowels of mercies" for a few different reasons.

When I think of "bowels", I am reminded of the phrase "in the bowels of the ship" - meaning the deepest, most tucked away of places. Yet, as I looked this up, I found out that there is a little-used meaning of the word that translates to "the seat of gentler emotions".

As I continued to ponder this throughout the day, I wondered about that place or "seat" of gentler emotions.

Isn't that place our heart?

Matthew 12:35:

A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.

Wow.

Our heart is supposed to be full of mercies for those people with whom we come into contact each day.

Mercies - not mercy. Plural.

Lamentations 3:22-23:

[22]It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. [23]They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

God never runs out of fresh, new mercies for us. Nor should we ever run out of mercies for those in need of them.

Praise God for how He ties everything together.

YSIC,

Virginia

That's a packed blog because it's packed with God's word. We know that when a blog has God's word it's worth to know what it wants to tell us. Well I like mysteries and bowes of mercies is ' I never though of that' kind of thing. Maybe its an old english term for something. I happen to have my greek and aramaic bibles on hand let me look at Col 3:12...hold on.. I be back...tic...tic...tic, I'm back...the greek scholar says that bowes are feelings...Let check the aramaic scholar...I'll be back...tic...tic...tic...I'm back, the aramaic translation only has...'mercy' without bowels...Now what do we do?

Do we feel mercy or do we have mercy? Jesus was moved with compassion and he rose the young man from the dead and gave him to his mother. Is mercy a feeling? Like emotion or sadness? Or joy? The aramaic text came first before the greek. Jesus spoke aramaic, it's kind of like hebrew but I think older. My guess is that mercy is on a class all by itself. I'll led to believe it has to do more like when I, you say ' from the bottom of my heart'. Meaning that what is on the bottom is not volatile or transient like an acassional emotion that passes away.

"His mercies fail not..." This kind of mercy is not a result of circumstance but part of the character like that of God himself who never changes, he always merciful. I guess we could say that we should have 'perduring mercy that fail not' Not even when we are not even thanked or given glory for it. If you love only those that love you, what profit is that, even the publican do the same. Jesus. Yes let's have perduring mercy that never fails. Mercy never fails. Paul. May be blessed and may God have everlasting dominion and glory. Amen.
